Print Methodology for Applying Polymer Materials to Roofing Materials to Form Nail Tabs or Reinforcing Strips

Abstract

A method and apparatus for applying nail tabs to roofing and building cover materials involving the steps of depositing tab material onto the surface of the roofing or building cover material, during or after its manufacture, resulting in a plurality of nail tabs from a lamination roll, and bonding the tabs to the surface of the material by pressure between the lamination roll and said surface. The method also encompasses depositing the tab material or pre-formed tads by a pressure roll in contact with said surface. The tabs preferably ate made substantially of a polymer material and may be hardened or cured by ultra-violet or visible light. The tabs may also be pre-formed and have adhesive backing.

An apparatus for depositing a polymer from a roll, comprising a pattern or cell, formed into the surface of the roll for transfer of polymer material to a substrate material, the cell having protrusions in the base of the cell, the protrusions being from a group comprised of the following shapes: tetrahedral, pyramidal or pointed protrusions. 
     
     
         18 . The apparatus for depositing a polymer from a roll or cell in accordance with claim  1  wherein said pattern or cell has been formed into the surface of a roll by an etching process, or an engraving or machining process. 
     
     
         19 . The apparatus for depositing a polymer from a roll or cell in accordance with claim  1  wherein said pattern or cell has no internal separation walls. 
     
     
         20 . The apparatus for depositing a polymer from a roll or cell in accordance with claim  1  wherein said pattern or cell has one or more cell walls or divisions within the pattern or cell. 
     
     
         21 . The apparatus for depositing a polymer from a roll or cell in accordance with claim  1  wherein said pattern or cell is formed into the surface of a roll used in a gravure polymer material transfer process. 
     
     
         22 . The apparatus for depositing a polymer from a roll or cell in accordance with claim  1  wherein said pattern or cell is formed into the surface of a roll used in an offset polymer material transfer process.
