Abstract

New hybrid cultivars of Poa bulbosa are persistent in a turf setting, and possess multiple characteristics desired in a turfgrass.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A hybrid  Poa bulbosa  cultivar that is uniform and stable to type, wherein said cultivar is persistent in a turf setting. 
     
     
         2 . The hybrid  Poa bulbosa  cultivar of  claim 1 , wherein said cultivar demonstrates at least 50%-98% cool season reemergence after dormancy. 
     
     
         3 . The hybrid  Poa bulbosa  cultivar of  claim 1 , wherein said cultivar demonstrates comprehensive warm season dormancy. 
     
     
         4 . The hybrid  Poa bulbosa  cultivar of  claim 1 , wherein said cultivar is a cool season component of a turf that comprises a warm season grass. 
     
     
         5 . The hybrid  Poa bulbosa  cultivar of  claim 2 , wherein said cultivar demonstrates at least 60% cool season reemergence over at least two years. 
     
     
         6 . The hybrid  Poa bulbosa  cultivar of  claim 2 , wherein said cultivar demonstrates at least 60% cool season reemergence over at least three years. 
     
     
         7 . The hybrid  Poa bulbosa  cultivar of  claim 1 , wherein said persistent cultivar demonstrates improved uniformity and/or performance in one or more of the following characteristics over that of a wild type control:
 fine to medium leaf texture; vibrant verdure; tolerance to mowing; cool season emergence; comprehensive warm season dormancy; rapid establishment; density; and bulblet yield.   
     
     
         8 . The  Poa bulbosa  cultivar of  claim 4 , wherein the warm season grass is Bermuda grass. 
     
     
         9 . Reproductive tissue, bulbs, seed, or bulblets obtained from the cultivar of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         10 .  Poa bulbosa  progeny derived from parental plants comprising one or more cultivar of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         11 . Turf comprising one or more cultivar of  claim 1  or produced from reproductive tissue, bulbs, seed, or bulblets of claim thereof. 
     
     
         12 . The turf of  claim 11 , comprising a sports turf, golf fairway, golf green, park, or lawn. 
     
     
         13 . A  Poa bulbosa  seed or bulblet obtained from the hybrid cultivar of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         14 . A  Poa bulbosa  plant, or a part thereof, grown from a seed or bulblet of the hybrid cultivar of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         15 . Pollen of the plant of  claim 14 . 
     
     
         16 . An ovule of the plant of  claim 14 . 
     
     
         17 . A tissue culture of cells produced from a leaf, anther, stem, petiole, root, root tip, seed, bulblet, bulb, flower, embryo or meristematic cell of the  Poa bulbosa  plant of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         18 . A protoplast produced from the plant of  claim 14 . 
     
     
         19 . A  Poa bulbosa  plant regenerated from the tissue culture of  claim 17 . 
     
     
         20 . The  Poa bulbosa  hybrid cultivar of  claim 1 , comprising a transgene. 
     
     
         21 . A hybrid  Poa bulbosa  seed or bulblet produced by the hybrid cultivar of  claim 20 . 
     
     
         22 . The hybrid cultivar of  claim 20 , wherein said transgene confers resistance to a disease or pest, tolerance to a climatic condition or soil element, or that provides a selected trait.
