Community authoring content generation and navigation
Abstract
One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for creating socially authored, or community authored, summaries of documents and/or for navigating a forum comprising such summaries. In one embodiment, at least some of the summaries are generated automatically when a document is written and/or discovered (e.g., by a web crawler), for example. In another embodiment, the documents are created by users of the forum. A plurality of summaries of a document may be created (e.g., by different users), and users can provide feedback, such as comments or ratings, that may assist other users in identifying which summary or summaries better describe the document. Moreover, the users can navigate the forum and retrieve summaries by browsing categories (and subcategories) to identify a topic of interest and/or by performing a search based upon user inputted search term(s).

21 . A method performed by a computing device, the method comprising:
obtaining first text relating to an object, the first text being authored by a first distinctly identifiable entity; providing the first text relating to the object to a second distinctly identifiable entity; receiving feedback from the second distinctly identifiable entity resulting in a modification to the first text relating to the object; based at least on the feedback, generating modified first text relating to the object; ranking the modified first text relating to the object relative to second text relating to the object to obtain a ranked order; and presenting, to a third distinctly identifiable entity, the first text relating to the object and the second text relating to the object in the ranked order.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the object is a document.
23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the document is at least one of a technical document, a dissertation, a journal article, or a book.
24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the presenting comprises providing links to the modified first text and the second text.
25 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
receiving a query from the third distinctly identifiable entity, wherein the modified first text and the second text are presented in the ranked order responsive to receiving the query.
26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the modified first text comprises a summary of the object, and the object is a document.
27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the second text comprises another summary of the object.
28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the ranking is based on terms that appear in the modified first text, the second text, and the document.
29 . A computing device comprising:
at least one processing unit; and at least one memory storing instructions which, when executed by the at least one processing unit, cause the at least one processing unit to: obtain first text relating to an object, the first text being authored by a first distinctly identifiable entity; modify the first text relating to the object based at least on received feedback to obtain modified first text; rank the first text relating to the object relative to second text relating to the object to obtain a ranked order; and present the modified first text and the second text in the ranked order.
30 . The computing device of claim 29 , wherein the received feedback comprises changes to the first text.
31 . The computing device of claim 29 , wherein the received feedback comprises a link added to the first text.
32 . The computing device of claim 29 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processing unit, cause the at least one processing unit to:
grant permissions to specific users to modify the first text; and enforce the permissions by preventing other users from modifying the first text.
33 . The computing device of claim 29 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processing unit, cause the at least one processing unit to:
present a hierarchy of categories to a third distinctly identifiable entity; and receive selections of various categories in the hierarchy from the third distinctly identifiable entity, wherein the modified first text and the second text are presented to the third distinctly identifiable entity responsive to the selections of the various categories.
34 . The computing device of claim 33 , wherein the various categories are selected via corresponding links.
35 . A hardware computer-readable medium storing processor-executable instructions which, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform acts comprising:
obtaining first text summarizing an object, the first text being authored by a first distinctly identifiable entity; providing the first text summarizing the object to a second distinctly identifiable entity; receiving feedback from the second distinctly identifiable entity resulting in a modification to the first text summarizing the object; based at least on the feedback, generating modified first text summarizing the object; ranking the modified first text summarizing the object relative to second text summarizing the object to obtain a ranked order; and presenting, to a third distinctly identifiable entity, the first text summarizing the object and the second text summarizing the object in the ranked order.
36 . The hardware computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the second text is authored by an entity other than the first distinctly identifiable entity.
37 . The hardware computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the object is a document.
38 . The hardware computer-readable medium of claim 37 , wherein the first text, the modified first text, and the second text are each different summaries of the document.
39 . The hardware computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the presenting is performed by sending the first text and the second text to the third distinctly identifiable entity over a network.
