Abstract

The present invention provides wood preservative compositions comprising micronized particles. In one embodiment, the composition comprises dispersions of micronized metal or metal compounds. In another embodiment, the wood preservative composition comprises an inorganic component comprising a metal or metal compound and organic biocide. When the composition comprises an inorganic component and an organic biocide, the inorganic component or the organic biocide or both are present as micronized particles. When compositions of the present invention are used for preservation of wood, there is minimal leaching of the metal and biocide from the wood.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A wood product comprising:
 a) a dispersion in water of particles of a copper compound selected from the group consisting of copper-8-hydroxyquinolate, copper dimethyldithiocarbamate, copper omadine, and copper borate, the particles of the copper compound having a particle size of from 0.05 to 1.0 microns; b) one or more emulsifying agents, or one or more dispersants, or one or more alkoxylated diamines or trialkylamine oxides, or a combination thereof; and c) tebuconazole, cyproconazole, or a quaternary ammonium compound, wherein the particles of the copper compound are distributed within the wood product and render the wood product resistant to fungal decay.

2 . The wood product of claim 1 , comprising copper omadine and tebuconazole.

3 . The wood product of claim 1 , comprising copper omadine and a quaternary ammonium compound.

4 . The wood product of claim 1 , wherein the copper compound is milled.

5 . The wood product of claim 1 , comprising a dispersion in water of milled particles of tebuconazole having a particle size of from 0.001 to 25 microns.

6 . The wood product of claim 1 , comprising a dispersion in water of milled particles of cyproconazole having a particle size of from 0.001 to 25 microns.

7 . The wood product of claim 1 , comprising one or more alkoxylated diamines.

8 . The wood product of claim 1 , comprising one or more trialkylamine oxides.

9 . The wood product of claim 1 , comprising a trialkylamine oxide selected from N,N-dimethyl-1-hexadecylamine-N-oxide and N,N-dimethyl-1-dodecylamine-N-oxide.

10 . The wood product of claim 1 , comprising a quaternary ammonium compound selected from alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride, dimethyldidecylammonium chloride, dimethyldidecylammonium carbonate, and dimethyldidecylammonium bicarbonate.

11 . The wood product of claim 1 , wherein the wood product is coniferous wood.

12 . The wood product of claim 1 , wherein the wood product is southern pine.

13 . The wood product of claim 1 , wherein the wood product is particleboard.

14 . The wood product of claim 1 , wherein the wood product is lumber.
