Abstract

a The disclosure is directed to a manhole cover, comprising: an upper transparent disc; a lower transparent disc coupled to the upper disc; and means for emitting electromagnetic radiation at a predetermined wavelength that is narrower than full spectrum, the means for emitting electromagnetic radiation operably coupled to the lower disc, wherein: the upper disc has a diameter larger than the lower disc, and the predetermined wavelength is configured to inhibit vermin from inhabiting the volume irradiated by the means for emitting electromagnetic radiation.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
. A kit for inhibiting pests below a manhole cover, said kit comprising a lamp for illuminating the volume beneath the manhole cover.

. The kit of claim 1 wherein said lamp comprises at least one light emitting diode emitting light at a frequency that inhibits said pests.

. The kit of claim 1 wherein said lamp comprises a halogen lamp or a fiber optic light guide tube.

. The kit of claim 1 wherein said pests comprise cockroaches and said lamp emits radiation having wavelengths in at least one of the ranges of between 500 nm and 510 nm and between 360 nm to 370 nm.

. The kit of claim 4 wherein said pests comprise cockroaches and said lamp emits radiation selected from the group of wavelengths comprising 507 nm and 365 nm.

. The kit of claim 1 wherein said pests comprise rats and said lamp emits radiation having wavelengths in at least one of the ranges of between 500 nm and 515 nm and between 355 nm to 370 nm. comprising 510 nm and 359 nm.

. The kit of claim 6 wherein said pests comprise rats and said lamp emits radiation selected from the group of wavelengths comprising 510 nm and 359 nm.

. The kit of claim 1 wherein said pests comprise snakes and said lamp emits radiation having wavelengths in at least one of the ranges of between 540 nm and 560 nm and between 355 nm to 370 nm and between 425 nm and 450 nm.

. The kit of claim 6 wherein said pests comprise rats and said lamp emits radiation selected from the group of wavelengths comprising 550 nm and 361 nm.

. The kit of claim 1 wherein said lamp is coupled to a solar panel above ground for generating electricity for powering said lamp.

. The kit of claim 10 further comprising an electricity storage system for storing electricity from said solar panel to power said lamp when said solar panel is not illuminated.

. The kit of claim 1 wherein said lamp is coupled to a mains power supply.

. The kit of claim 1 wherein said lamp is coupled to a battery.

. The kit of claim 13 wherein said manhole cover comprises an indicator of battery charge selected from a light indicator and a transceiver for transmitting an alert.

. The kit of claim 1 wherein said lamp flashes at a frequency in the range of from 1 Hz to 1 MHz.

. The kit of claim 1 for retrofitting to an opaque manhole cover.

. The kit of claim 17 wherein said lamp is coupled to an electricity storage system for storing electricity from said solar panel to power said lamp when said solar panel is not illuminated.

. A method of inhibiting pests in a volume beneath a manhole cover comprising providing a kit comprising a lamp for illuminating the space below the manhole cover and illuminating said lamp.

. The method of claim 18 wherein said lamp comprises at least one light emitting diode, halogen lamp or a fiber optic light guide tube for emitting light at a frequency that inhibits said pests.

. The method of claim 18 wherein said lamp is coupled to a solar panel above ground for generating electricity for powering said lamp.
