Abstract
The invention is related to a method for making a silicone hydrogel contact lens having a nano-textured surface which mimics the surface texture of cornea of human eye. A method of the invention comprises creating a prime coating having nano-textures through controlled imbibition and/or depositions of a reactive polymeric coating material and fixing the nano-textures by crosslinking a hydrophilic polymeric material onto the prime coating to form a crosslinked polymeric coating that preserves the nano-textures of the prime coating and provides a nano-textured surface to the contact lens.

18 . A silicone hydrogel contact lens, comprising: a silicone hydrogel lens body and a non-silicone hydrogel coating thereon, wherein the non-silicone hydrogel coating comprises winkle surface patterns (nano-textures) having a roughness (Ra) of from about 5 nm to about 600 nm.

The silicone hydrogel contact lens of claim 18 , wherein the silicone hydrogel contact lens has at least one of properties selected from the group consisting of (1) a surface hydrophilicity/wettability characterized by having an averaged water contact angle of about 80 degrees or less; (2) an oxygen transmissibility of at least about 50 barrers/mm; (3) an elastic modulus of about 1.5 MPa or less; (4) a water content of from about 18% to about 70% by weight when fully hydrated; and (5) combinations thereof.
