Abstract
The present invention includes compositions, methods, systems and kits for the controlled delivery of an active agent within a polymeric network upon the binding of a molecule that decreases the structural integrity of the polymeric network at one or more micro- or nanovacuoles.

47 . A molecule-imprinted reversible polymeric network composition comprising:
an ethylene glycol dimethacrylate crosslinked release molecule-imprinted polyacrylamide polymer one or more nanovacuoles disposed within the ethylene glycol dimethacrylate crosslinked polyacrylamide polymer that recognizes the release molecule; and one or more active agents disposed in the ethylene glycol dimethacrylate crosslinked active agent-imprinted polyacrylamide polymer; wherein the subsequent presence and binding of the release molecule by the polymer creates reversible internal stresses so as to release the active agent.
48 . The composition of claim 47 , wherein the polymer comprises a micromolecular system, a hydrogel, a gel or a composite.
49 . The composition of claim 47 , wherein the polymer swells between 2-18%, 4-16%, 5-15% and 7-12% of the volume of the dried polymer in a solvent alone.
50 . The composition of claim 47 , wherein the polymer swells between 5 and 15% of the volume of the dried polymer in a solvent alone.
51 . The composition of claim 47 , wherein rupture of the polymeric network is due to: osmosis upon the presence and binding of the molecule leading to rupture due to swelling; change of the solubility of the polymeric network leading to polymer dissolution; local temperature changes leading to expansion of the polymeric network or combinations thereof.
52 . The composition of claim 47 , wherein the active agent is further defined as a pharmaceutical agent, a cosmetic, an enzyme or a fragrance.
