Barbecue Grill Grate Scraper with Garden Hose Adapter

Abstract

A cleaning tool for use in removing food residue from barbecue grill-grates and grill housings. The design utilizes two scraping edges that are highly effective due to the angle at which the tool is oriented to the horizontal grill-grate. The scraping end of the tool is hereinafter referred to as the “Tip” and the bottom end of the tool is hereinafter referred to as the “Base”. The base has a garden-hose adapter incorporated into the tool so that char residue may be rinsed off as the grill grate or housing is being scraped. The “Tip”, being the working end of the tool, is milled by a CNC (computer numerical control) machine. A “V” shaped notch is cut out to form the top of the tip. A ⅜″ diameter semi-circular groove is milled to form the bottom of the “Tip”. The tool is utilized by contacting the tip of the tool at roughly a 45° angle to the grill-bar. From this orientation, the tool is pushed forward to remove char/food residue from grill bar. The tool can also be utilized pulling the tool toward the user, although the forward push of the tool most efficiently utilizes the two scraping edges. By connecting a garden hose and turning the water on to a low flow, users can scrape and rinse the grill-grate and housing simultaneously. The design is such that it is used just as effectively on a “cold” grill (heat source NOT ignited) as it is on a warm grill.

I claim: 
     
         1 . A cooking grill grate scraper and cleaning tool, comprised of:
 a.) aluminum pipe, with a specially designed scraping tip   b.) ½″ PVC Sch. 40 pipe, bended at approximately 23 degrees   c.) garden hose adapter   d.) heat shrink tubing   e.) vinyl hanger cap   
       wherein (a), (b), (c), (d), and (e) are assembled to form a one piece tool. The garden hose adapter is connected to the PVC pipe with PVC cement, the aluminum pipe is connected to the PVC pipe by drilling a pilot hole through the joined areas and securing the connection with a stainless steel set screw. The PVC pipe and one inch of the adjoining aluminum pipe are covered with heat shrink tubing, which also covers the set screw to hold the set screw in a fixed position. The removable vinyl hanger cap can be utilized to hang the grill grate scraper from the cooking grill. 
     
     
         2 . A hollow grill grate and housing cleaning tool, such that the garden hose adapter allows water to flow through the end of the tool described in  claim 1 , allowing the user to scrape char and rinse it off simultaneously.
