Directed Interpolation and Data Post-Processing
Abstract
An encoding device evaluates a plurality of processing and/or post-processing algorithms and/or methods to be applied to a video stream, and signals a selected method, algorithm, class or category of methods/algorithms either in an encoded bitstream or as side information related to the encoded bitstream. A decoding device or post-processor utilizes the signaled algorithm or selects an algorithm/method based on the signaled method or algorithm. The selection is based, for example, on availability of the algorithm/method at the decoder/post-processor and/or cost of implementation. The video stream may comprise, for example, downsampled multiplexed stereoscopic images and the selected algorithm may include any of upconversion and/or error correction techniques that contribute to a restoration of the downsampled images.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for decoding at least one temporal cuboid region of a plurality of pictures, the method comprising:
decoding, by a decoder, a video bitstream comprising a plurality of pictures with two interleaved images, the two interleaved images being quincunx sampled and checkerboard multiplexed; de-interleaving and upsampling the two images; after de-interleaving and upsampling, storing the two images in a buffer; and receiving, by the decoder, metadata from the video bitstream indicating a width, height, and temporal length of the at least one temporal cuboid region for the plurality of pictures, the width and height being fixed for the temporal length, wherein the at least one cuboid region is smaller in a width or height than a picture of the plurality of pictures, the at least one temporal cuboid region is classified by semantic information, and the temporal length is greater than one picture.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one cuboid region is two regions.
3 . The method of claim 2 wherein the two regions overlap.
4 . The method of claim 2 wherein the two regions are non-overlapping.
5 . The method of claim 1 wherein the plurality of pictures is a Group of Pictures.
6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the at least at least one temporal cuboid is sized 32×32 luma pixels in the width and height of a picture.
7 . A video bitstream stored on a non-transitory computer readable medium, the video bitstream comprising:
a plurality of pictures with two interleaved images, the two interleaved images being quincunx sampled and checkerboard multiplexed; at least one cuboid region of the plurality of pictures; and metadata to define a width, height, and temporal length of the at least one cuboid region, the width and height being fixed for the temporal length, wherein the at least one cuboid region being smaller in a width or height than a picture of the plurality of pictures, wherein the at least one cuboid region is classified by semantic information, and wherein the temporal length is greater than one picture.
8 . The method of claim 7 wherein the at least one cuboid region is two regions.
9 . The method of claim 8 wherein the two regions overlap.
10 . The method of claim 8 wherein the two regions are non-overlapping.
11 . The method of claim 7 wherein the plurality of pictures is a Group of Pictures.
12 . The method of claim 7 wherein the at least at least one temporal cuboid is sized 32×32 luma pixels in the width and height of a picture.
13 . A method for encoding a video bitstream, the method comprising:
compressing, by an encoder, a plurality of pictures as two interleaved images, the two images being quincunx sampled and checkerboard multiplexed; and storing the video bitstream to a non-transitory computer readable medium, wherein the video bitstream comprises: the compressed plurality of pictures; at least one cuboid region of the plurality of pictures classified by semantic information, the at least one cuboid region being smaller in a width or height than a picture of the plurality of pictures; and metadata to define a width, height, and temporal length of the at least one cuboid region, the width and height being fixed for the temporal length and the temporal length is greater than one picture.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
