Abstract

A fuel cell includes a catalyst layer containing a polymer electrolyte and catalyst-carrying carbon. A value of an initial weight ratio of the polymer electrolyte to the catalyst-carrying carbon in the catalyst layer is set to a value that is smaller by 0.1 to 0.2 than a value of a weight ratio of the polymer electrolyte to the catalyst-carrying carbon in the catalyst layer which maximizes a maximum output of the fuel cell in a state where the polymer electrolyte is not swollen.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A fuel cell comprising
a catalyst layer containing a polymer electrolyte and catalyst-carrying carbon, wherein a value of an initial weight ratio of the polymer electrolyte to the catalyst-carrying carbon in the catalyst layer is a value that is smaller by 0.1 to 0.2 than a value of a weight ratio of the polymer electrolyte to the catalyst-carrying carbon in the catalyst layer which maximizes a maximum output of the fuel cell in a state where the polymer electrolyte is not swollen.

2 . The fuel cell according to claim 1 , wherein the polymer electrolyte is at least one of a perfluorocarbonsulfonic acid polymer and a polyarylene ether sulfonic acid copolymer.

3 . The fuel cell according to claim 1 , wherein the catalyst-carrying carbon is a carbon black.

4 . The fuel cell according to claim 1 , wherein the catalyst-carrying carbon carries at least one metal catalyst selected from Pt, Pt—Fe, Pt—Cr, Pt—Ni, and Pt—Ru.

5 . A moving body comprising the fuel cell according to claim 1 .
