Abstract
A polymeric base with an adhered UV-cured adhesive applied thereto including a polymeric substrate having an amount of adhesion promoter filler particles dispersed throughout at least a portion thereof. At least a portion of the adhesion promoter filler particles effective to form an enhanced bond between the UV-cured adhesive and the polymeric substrate.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
. A flexible film package having an adhesive based reclosable fastener, comprising:
a flexible film substrate forming a plurality of package walls joined to one another to form an interior cavity for receiving a product, the plurality of walls having at least first and second opposing flexible walls, wherein the second opposing flexible wall extends beyond the first opposing flexible wall; a first low tack pressure sensitive adhesive (LTPSA) layer disposed on an exterior surface of the first opposing flexible wall; a second LTPSA layer disposed on an interior surface of the second opposing flexible wall on a portion that extends beyond the first opposing flexible wall, the LTPSA layers configured to be adjacent to one another when the package is closed along a fold line; and a package mouth oriented between the first and second LTPSA layers, initially sealed, to permit access to the interior cavity.
. The flexible film package of claim 1 , wherein the flexible film substrate includes at least one sealant layer on an outer surface thereof, the at least one sealant layer including adhesion promoter filler particles therein arranged and configured so that at least a portion of the at least one sealant layer interacts with the first and second LTPSA layers to form the bond strength.
. The flexible film package of claim 2 , wherein the sealant layer includes a blend of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), polyethylene, and a filler composition including the adhesion promoter filler particles and a polymeric carrier resin.
. The flexible film package of claim 3 , wherein the polymeric carrier resin is a maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene and where the EVA forms a continuous phase with the polyethylene, the filler particles, and the maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene as a discontinuous phase dispersed within the continuous phase.
. The flexible film package of claim 4 , wherein the maleic anhydride portion has an affinity for the adhesion promoter filler.
. The flexible film package of claim 3 , wherein the at least one sealant layer includes about 60 to about 80 percent EVA, about 5 to percent 20 percent polyethylene, and about 3 to percent 20 percent filler composition.
. The flexible film package of claim 2 , wherein the at least one sealant layer includes about 0.5 to about 20 percent of the adhesion promoter filler particles.
. The flexible film package of claim 6 , wherein the adhesion promoter filler particles are selected from the group consisting of clay, phiylosilicates, calcium carbonate, montmorillonite, dolomite, talc, mica, and mixtures thereof.
. The flexible film package of claim 7 , wherein the adhesion promoter filler particles are montmorillonite modified with ammonium salt surfactants.
. The flexible film package of claim 9 , wherein the organically modified montmorillonite is supplied with a maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene carrier resin.
. The flexible film package of claim 1 , wherein the flexible film substrate includes about 1000 ppm or less fatty acid imides.
. The flexible film package of claim 1 , wherein the flexible film substrate and the first and second LTPSA layers have a surface energy between about 36 and about 38 dynes/cm2.
. The flexible film package of claim 1 , wherein the surface energy of the flexible film substrate and the first and second LTPSA layers is substantially the same.
. The flexible film package of claim 1 , wherein the flexible film substrate includes a multi-layer film including one or more polymeric support layers and at least one outer sealant layer including adhesion promoter filler particles therein, the first and second LTPSA layers applied to a respective one of the at least one outer sealant layer and the adhesion promoter filler particles arranged and configured so that at least a portion of the adhesion promoter filler particles interact with a respective one of the first and second LTPSA layers to form the bond strength.
. The flexible film package of claim 14 , wherein the one or more polymeric support layers includes one or more layers of polyethylene.
. The flexible film package of claim 14 , wherein the flexible film substrate includes a laminate having a paperboard component.
. The flexible film package of claim 16 , wherein the paperboard component includes a polymer layer thereon where the polymer layer includes the adhesion promoter filler particles.
. The flexible film package of claim 1 , wherein the flexible film substrate further comprises adhesion promoter filler particles dispersed therein, and wherein the flexible film substrate having the adhesion promoter filler particles dispersed therein increases the surface energy of the flexible film substrate over the same flexible film substrate without the adhesion promoter filler particles, the surface energy increased to a level effective to form the bond strength.
. The flexible film package of claim 1 , wherein the flexible film substrate further comprises adhesion promoter filler particles dispersed therein, and wherein the first and second LTPSA layers are disposed within spaces formed in at least a portion of the adhesion promoting filler particles.
. The flexible film package of claim 1 , wherein the flexible film substrate further comprises adhesion promoter filler particles dispersed therein, and wherein at least a portion of the adhesion promoting filler particles are exposed at a surface of the flexible film substrate.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
