Abstract
A system for stabilization of a shoreline comprising a sheet having an unfolded state and a folded state, the sheet comprising a first edge and a second opposing edge connected by a first end and a second end, the sheet comprising a first layer formed from a first degradable fabric and a second layer formed from a second degradable fabric, the sheet further comprising channels formed at each of the first edge and the second edge, the channels formed from one or more of the first and the second fabric, each of the channels comprising an anchor rope threaded therethrough, each of the channels comprising a plurality of openings, the anchor rope extends through the plurality of openings for securement to a shoreline surface by the anchor rope, and methods of using the same.

1 . A system for stabilization of a shoreline, the system comprising:
a sheet having an unfolded state and a folded state, the sheet comprising a first edge and a second opposing edge connected by a first end and a second end, the sheet comprising a first layer formed from a first degradable fabric and a second layer formed from a second degradable fabric, the sheet further comprising channels formed at each of the first edge and the second edge, the channels formed from one or more of the first and the second fabric, each of the channels comprising an anchor rope threaded therethrough, each of the channels comprising a plurality of openings, the anchor rope extends through the plurality of openings for securement to a shoreline surface by the anchor rope.

The system of claim 1 wherein when the sheet is in a folded state, the first edge and the second opposing edge can be secured to a plurality of stakes by the anchor rope extending through the plurality of openings, the plurality of openings in each of the channels are uniformly space about a length of the sheet, wherein an opening of the plurality of openings in each of the channels of the first edge and second edge are aligned and secured to a single stake of the plurality of stakes.
3 . The system of claim 1 wherein the sheet in the folded state further comprises organic media disposed therein.
4 . The system of claim 3 wherein the organic media comprises a member selected from the group consisting of cornstalks, oat straw, grass clippings, compost, coconut and pine saw.
5 . The system of claim 1 wherein the sheet comprises a length of about 25 feet to about 200 feet.
6 . The system of claim 1 wherein the sheet comprises a length selected from 25 feet, 50 feet, 75 feet, 100 feet and 200 feet.
7 . The system of claim 1 wherein the sheet comprises a width of about 4 feet to about 10 feet.
8 . The system of claim 1 wherein the sheet comprises a width of about 6 feet.
9 . The system of claim 1 wherein the sheet is configured for stabilization of a shoreline having a grade of about 1 inch to about 68 inches.
10 . The system of claim 1 wherein the plurality of openings are uniformly spaced along a length of the sheet at a distance of about 3 feet.
11 . The system of claim 10 wherein each of the plurality of openings comprises a loop of the anchor rope, the loop of the anchor rope is configured for securement to a shoreline stake.
12 . The system of claim 1 wherein the first layer is formed from a biodegradable fabric and the second layer is formed from a photodegradable fabric.
13 . The system of claim 12 wherein when the sheet is in the folded state the first layer is an outer layer and the second layer is an inner layer.
14 . The system of claim 12 wherein the second layer is in the form of a weave or mesh.
15 . The system of claim 12 wherein the biodegradable fabric is burlap.
16 . The system of claim 15 wherein the biodegradable fabric is untreated burlap including jute fiber.
17 . The system of claim 12 wherein the photodegradable fabric is a polymer-based fabric.
18 . The system of claim 17 wherein the photodegradable fabric comprises a member selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polyesters and polycarbonates.
19 . The system of claim 18 wherein the photodegradable material is a polyolefin comprising polypropylene.
20 . A method for stabilization of a shoreline, the method comprising:
providing a sheet comprising a first edge and a second opposing edge connected by a first end and a second end, the sheet comprising a first layer formed from a first fabric comprising a degradable fabric and a second layer formed from a second fabric comprising a degradable fabric, the sheet further comprising channels formed at each of the first edge and the second edge, the channels formed from one or more of the first and the second fabric, each of the channels comprising an anchor roped threaded therethrough; placing the sheet on a selected shoreline in a flat state; providing an organic media on the sheet; folding the sheet in half over the organic media; and securing the sheet with the drawstring to a plurality stakes set in said shoreline.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
