Claims

Abstract

The present invention provides am engine oil composition with excellent fuel saving properties, which comprises a lubricating base oil with a saturate content of 70 percent by mass or more and a viscosity index of 90 or greater and a star polymer as a viscosity index improver in an amount of at least 4 percent by mass or more on the basis of the total mass of the engine oil composition, the ratio (B/A) of (B) the high temperature high shear viscosity at 1×10 7 /s shear rate and 100° C. to (A) the high temperature high shear viscosity at 1×10 6 /s shear rate and 100° C. being 0.85 or less.

An engine oil composition comprising a lubricating base oil with a saturate content of 70 percent by mass or more and a viscosity index of 90 or greater and a star polymer as a viscosity index improver in an amount of at least 4 percent by mass or more on the basis of the total mass of the engine oil composition, the ratio (B/A) of (B) the high temperature high shear viscosity at 1×10 7 /s shear rate and 100° C. to (A) the high temperature high shear viscosity at 1×10 6 /s shear rate and 100° C. being 0.85 or less. 
     
     
         2 . The engine oil composition according to  claim 1  wherein the high temperature high shear viscosity at 1×10 6 /s shear rate and 150° C. is 2.6 mPa·s or higher. 
     
     
         3 . The engine oil composition according to  claim 1  wherein the base oil has a 100° C. kinematic viscosity of 3.5 to 5.0 mm 2 /s. 
     
     
         4 . The engine oil composition according to  claim 1 , wherein it is used for a diesel engine. 
     
     
         5 . The engine oil composition according to  claim 2  wherein the base oil has a 100° C. kinematic viscosity of 3.5 to 5.0 mm 2 /s. 
     
     
         6 . The engine oil composition according to  claim 2 , wherein it is used for a diesel engine. 
     
     
         7 . The engine oil composition according to  claim 3 , wherein it is used for a diesel engine.
