Abstract

The invention provides antibodies that inhibit activation of complement, which may be used to treat various inflammatory diseases or disorders.

         28 . A method of treating an inflammatory disease or disorder comprising administering to a subject an effective amount of an isolated anti-inflammatory antibody that binds to the N2 self-peptide wherein the antibody comprises CDR1, CDR2 and CDR3 of the heavy chain variable region and CDR1, CDR2, and CDR3 of the light chain variable region of an antibody produced by the hybridoma having ATCC deposit number PTA-9392 or of an antibody produced by the hybridoma having ATCC deposit number PTA-9393. 
     
     
         29 . The method of  claim 28 , wherein the inflammatory disease or disorder is selected from the group consisting of ischemia-reperfusion injury, stroke, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, arthritis, celiac disease, hyper-IgG immunodeficiency, arteriosclerosis, coronary artery disease, sepsis, myocarditis, encephalitis, transplant rejection, hepatitis, thyroiditis, osteoporosis, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, Type I diabetes, dermatitis, alopecia areata, -lichen sclerosis, ulcerative colitis, juvenile chronic arthritis, Crohn's disease, burn injury (or thermal injury), and multiple sclerosis. 
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 28 , wherein the subject is a mammal. 
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 28 , wherein the mammal is a human. 
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 28 , wherein the inflammatory disease is ischemia-reperfusion and results after myocardial infarction, stroke or a surgical procedure.

         34 . The method of  claim 28 , wherein the arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis or juvenile chronic arthritis. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 28 , wherein the antibody comprises CDR1, CDR2 and CDR3 of the heavy chain variable region and CDR1, CDR2, and CDR3 of the light chain variable region of the antibody produced by the hybridoma having ATCC deposit number PTA-9392. 
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 28 , wherein the antibody comprises CDR1, CDR2 and CDR3 of the heavy chain variable region and CDR1, CDR2, and CDR3 of the light chain variable region of the antibody produced by the hybridoma having ATCC deposit number PTA-9393. 
     
     
         37 . The method of  claim 28 , wherein the antibody is a humanized antibody or an antibody fragment thereof. 
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 28 , wherein the antibody is produced by a hybridoma having ATCC deposit number selected from the group consisting of PTA-9392 and PTA-9393, or a humanized antibody thereof.
