Lightweight modular golf bag having external frame

Abstract

A modular golf bag having an external frame is provided. A plurality of poles connect a frame top capable of receiving golf clubs to a frame bottom. A pliable bag body internal to the plurality of poles extends between the frame top and the frame bottom such that a cavity capable of receiving golf clubs through the frame top is formed. A plurality of pole sleeves are attached to the pliable bag body. Each pole sleeve surrounds at least a portion of the length of a pole such that each pole runs through at least one pole sleeve. The plurality of pole sleeves provide structure to the pliable bag body by securing the pliable bag body to the plurality of poles in an extended position. At least one additional storage compartment may be detachably connected between at least two of the plurality of poles.

         21 . A golf bag comprising:
 a first frame including a rim defining an opening operable to receive a golf club;   a second frame spaced apart from the first frame;   a first pole extending between the first frame and the second frame;   a second pole extending between the first frame and the second frame;   a bag body internal to the first pole and the second pole and extending between the first frame and the second frame to define an interior cavity operable to receive a golf club, the bag body being spaced apart from the rim;   a first sleeve attached to the bag body and at least partially surrounding the first pole; and   a second sleeve attached to the bag body and at least partially surrounding the second pole.   
     
     
         22 . The golf bag of  claim 21 , wherein the first sleeve cooperates with the first frame to define a first attachment region along a length of the first pole between the first sleeve and the first frame and cooperates with the second frame to define a second attachment region along a length of the first pole between the first sleeve and the second frame. 
     
     
         23 . The golf bag of  claim 22 , wherein the second sleeve cooperates with the first frame to define a third attachment region along a length of the second pole between the second sleeve and the first frame and cooperates with the second frame to define a fourth attachment region along a length of the second pole between the second sleeve and the second frame. 
     
     
         24 . The golf bag of  claim 23 , wherein the attachment regions are operable to receive a fastener to selectively attach an external structure to the first pole and/or the second pole. 
     
     
         25 . The golf bag of  claim 24 , wherein the external structure is a storage compartment. 
     
     
         26 . The golf bag of  claim 23 , wherein the first attachment region is aligned with the third attachment region and the second attachment region is aligned with the fourth attachment region. 
     
     
         27 . The golf bag of  claim 21 , wherein the second frame includes at least one substantially planar surface. 
     
     
         28 . The golf bag of  claim 27 , wherein at least one of the first pole and the second pole terminates at the substantially planar surface of the second frame. 
     
     
         29 . The golf bag of  claim 21 , wherein the bag body is in tension in an area located between the first pole and the second pole. 
     
     
         30 . The golf bag of  claim 21 , wherein the bag body includes a panel extending between the first pole and the second pole, the panel being bounded by the first frame, the second frame, the first pole, and the second pole. 
     
     
         31 . The golf bag of  claim 21 , wherein the first pole and the second pole terminate at the first frame. 
     
     
         32 . A golf bag comprising:
 a first frame including a rim defining an opening operable to receive a golf club;   a second frame spaced apart from the first frame;   a bag body extending between the first frame and the second frame to define an interior cavity operable to receive a golf club;   a plurality of poles extending between the first frame and the second frame;   a plurality of sleeves attached to the bag body and at least partially surrounding respective ones of the plurality of poles;   wherein the bag body is entirely located within an area bounded by the first frame, the second frame, and the plurality of poles.   
     
     
         33 . The golf bag of  claim 32 , wherein the plurality of sleeves cooperate with the plurality of poles to define a plurality of attachment regions located along a length of plurality of poles. 
     
     
         34 . The golf bag of  claim 32 , wherein the attachment regions are aligned with one another along each pole of the plurality of poles. 
     
     
         35 . The golf bag of  claim 34 , wherein the plurality of attachment regions are operable to receive a fastener to selectively attach an external structure to the plurality of poles. 
     
     
         36 . The golf bag of  claim 35 , wherein the external structure is a storage compartment. 
     
     
         37 . The golf bag of  claim 32 , wherein the second frame includes at least one substantially planar surface. 
     
     
         38 . The golf bag of  claim 37 , wherein at least one of the plurality of poles terminates at the substantially planar surface of the second frame. 
     
     
         39 . The golf bag of  claim 32 , wherein the bag body is in tension in an area located between the plurality of poles. 
     
     
         40 . The golf bag of  claim 32 , wherein the bag body is spaced apart from the rim. 
     
     
         41 . The golf bag of  claim 32 , wherein the plurality of poles terminate at the first frame. 
     
     
         42 . A golf bag comprising:
 a first frame including a rim defining an opening operable to receive a golf club;   a second frame spaced apart from the first frame and including at least one substantially planar surface;   a first pole extending between the first frame and the second frame;   a second pole extending between the first frame and the second frame;   a bag body internal to the first pole and the second pole and extending between the first frame and the second frame to define an interior cavity operable to receive a golf club;   a first sleeve attached to the bag body and at least partially surrounding the first pole; and   a second sleeve attached to the bag body and at least partially surrounding the second pole;   wherein at least one of the first pole and the second pole terminates at the substantially planar surface of the second frame.

The golf bag of  claim 42 , wherein the first sleeve cooperates with the first frame to define a first attachment region along a length of the first pole between the first sleeve and the first frame and cooperates with the second frame to define a second attachment region along a length of the first pole between the first sleeve and the second frame.

The golf bag of  claim 43 , wherein the second sleeve cooperates with the first frame to define a third attachment region along a length of the second pole between the second sleeve and the first frame and cooperates with the second frame to define a fourth attachment region along a length of the second pole between the second sleeve and the second frame. 
     
     
         45 . The golf bag of  claim 44 , wherein the attachment regions are operable to receive a fastener to selectively attach an external structure to the first pole and/or the second pole. 
     
     
         46 . The golf bag of  claim 45 , wherein the external structure is a storage compartment. 
     
     
         47 . The golf bag of  claim 44 , wherein the first attachment region is aligned with the third attachment region and the second attachment region is aligned with the fourth attachment region. 
     
     
         48 . The golf bag of  claim 42 , wherein the bag body is in tension in an area located between the first pole and the second pole.
