Abstract

There are provided systems and methods for requesting payment for selected items or services using payment tokens. A first user, such as a requester for a transaction, may initiate a transaction with a merchant for at least one item or service. Upon checkout for the transaction, the first user may request that a second user complete payment for the transaction, such as a parent, spouse, or relative. A payment provider may generate a token for the transaction and instruct the merchant to hold the transaction for a period of time. The token may be communicated to the second user, a payer, for the transaction. The second user may then decide to authorize or decline payment for the transaction. The token may be kept valid for a period of time and the transaction may be cancelled with the merchant if the token is not paid for within the period.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A system comprising:
a non-transitory memory storing a transaction request for a requester; and one or more hardware processors in communication with the non-transitory memory and configured to:
 access the transaction request for an item available with a merchant, wherein the transaction request identifies the requester for the item, and wherein the transaction request further identifies a payer for the item;
generate a payment token based on the transaction request, wherein the payment token comprises requester identification information for the requester and a payment amount of the item; and
communicate the payment token to the payer for payment of the payment amount.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the payment token further comprises at least one of information for the item, merchant identification information for the merchant, and validity information for the payment token.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the validity information comprises at least one of a time limit for validity of the payment token, a rule associated with the payment of the payment amount, and a rule associated with receipt and use of the item.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the requester utilizes a payment provider website to submit the transaction request with the merchant, and wherein the one or more hardware processors are further configured to:
redirect the requester to a merchant website for the merchant after the requester submits the transaction request.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein prior to the one or more hardware processors communicating the payment token to the payer, the one or more hardware processors are further configured to:
determine contact information for the payer based on the transaction request, wherein the contact information comprises one of a messaging account, an email address, a payment account with a payment provider, and a phone number, wherein the one or more hardware processors are configured to communicate the payment token to the payer using the contact information.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein prior to the one or more hardware processors communicating the payment token to the payer, the one or more hardware processors are further configured to:
determine a validity of the contact information for the payer; and alert the requester based on the validity of the contact information.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein prior to the one or more hardware processors communicating the payment token to the payer, the one or more hardware processors are further configured to:
communicate the validity of the contact information to the merchant.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the merchant holds the item for purchase for a period of time that the payment token is valid, and wherein the transaction request comprises the period of time.

         9 . A method comprising:
accessing a transaction with a merchant, wherein the transaction comprises a requester for an item or a service from the merchant, and wherein the transaction further comprises a payer for the transaction; determining, using one or more hardware processors, a token using the transaction, wherein the token comprises a payment amount and transaction information; and communicating the token to the payer for payment processing.

10 . The method of claim 9 further comprising:
receiving a notification that the token was not successfully communicated to the payer; and
communicating the notification to at least one of the merchant and the requester.

11 . The method of claim 9 further comprising:
receiving an authorization to pay for the transaction from the payer; and
processing a payment for the transaction based on the authorization.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the authorization comprises at least one rule for the requester based on the payment of the transaction.

13 . The method of claim 11 further comprising:
communicating the authorization to at least one of the merchant and the requester.

14 . The method of claim 9 further comprising:
receiving a notification that the payer has viewed the token; and
communicating the notification to the merchant.

15 . The method of claim 9 further comprising:
receiving a denial of the transaction from the payer; and
communicating the denial to the merchant.

16 . The method of claim 15 further comprising:
communicating the denial to the requester.

17 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the transaction comprises at least one of a name for the payer, an email address for the payer, a phone number for the payer, an account of the payer, and a messaging identifier for the payer.

18 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions which, in response to execution by a computer system, cause the computer system to perform a method comprising:
receiving a transaction comprising a payment to a merchant, wherein the transaction comprises first identification information for a first user and second identification information for the merchant, and wherein a second user requests the first user to provide the payment to the merchant for the transaction; generating a token for the transaction, wherein the token comprises the payment and the second identification information; and verifying the first identification information.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the method further comprises:
alerting the merchant to cancel the transaction if the first identification information is not verified.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the method further comprises:
communicating the token to the first user using the first identification information if the first is verified.
