Abstract

A fact checking system is able to verify the correctness of information and/or characterize information by comparing the information with one or more sources. The fact checking system automatically monitors, processes, fact checks information and indicates a status of the information. Fact checking results are able to be validated by re-fact checking the fact check results.

Claims

What is claimed is:

         1 . A computerized method comprising:
 automatically detecting, during access of media by a user, candidate information about a candidate indicated in the media, the candidate information comprising automatic identification of the candidate and at least a first data associated with the candidate in the media; automatically processing the candidate information to determine a particular topic corresponding to the first data; automatically generating supplemental information based on the candidate information that has been processed; automatically presenting, during access of the media by the user, the supplemental information about the candidate, the supplemental information comprising one or more second data relating to the particular topic that is previously associated with the candidate; wherein the method is performed by one or more computing devices.

         2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein processing comprises classifying the candidate information.

         3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising fact checking the candidate information by comparing the processed candidate information with information from a source, and the supplemental information comprises a result of the fact checking.

         4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising searching for the supplemental information.

         5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media comprises a political advertisement.

         6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting includes at least one of voice recognition, face recognition, and name recognition.

         7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting includes detecting an entity associated with the candidate.

         8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the supplemental information comprises a campaign contribution implementation enabling a user to contribute to a campaign of the candidate.

         9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the supplemental information comprises a single click campaign contribution implementation enabling a user to contribute to a campaign of the candidate.

         10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the supplemental information includes a list of positions of the candidate on issues in a ranked order.

         11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the supplemental information comprises statistics related to the candidate.

         12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media is presented on the device, and the supplemental information is presented on a second device that is different than the device.

         13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media and the supplemental information are presented on the device.

         14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the supplemental information is based on the candidate and a detected keyword in the media.

         15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the supplemental information is based on the candidate and the user's political classification.

         16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the supplemental information is based on the candidate and user preferences.

         17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media comprises an advertisement, and the supplemental information comprises an accuracy rating of the advertisement.

         18 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media includes a candidate comment, and further comprising classifying and storing the candidate comment in a classification.

         19 . A method programmed in a non-transitory memory of a device, the method comprising:
 automatically detecting, during access of a media by a user, candidate information about a political candidate included in the media, the candidate information comprising automatic identification of the political candidate using a face recognition technique and at least a first data associated with the political candidate in the media; automatically processing the candidate information including converting the candidate information into searchable information and determining a particular topic corresponding to the first data; automatically fact checking the searchable information by comparing the searchable information with information included in a source; automatically presenting, during access of the media by the user, a result of the comparison of the searchable information and the information included in the source and supplemental information about the political candidate, the supplemental information comprising one or more second data relating to the particular topic that is previously associated with the political candidate.

         20 . A device comprising:
 a non-transitory memory for storing an application for automatically performing the following steps:
 detecting in a media being viewed by a user, an identity of a political candidate and at least a first data associated with the political candidate in the media;
 determining supplemental information based on the identity of the political candidate and a particular topic corresponding to the first data;
 presenting, during viewing of the media by the user, the supplemental information about the political candidate, the supplemental information comprising one or more second data relating to the particular topic that is previously associated with the political candidate;
   a processor for processing the application.
