Fantasy game play fact checking

Abstract

A fact checking system is able to verify the correctness of information and/or characterize information by comparing the information with one or more sources. The fact checking system automatically monitors, processes, fact checks information and indicates a status of the information. Fact checking results are able to be validated by re-fact checking the fact check results.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . One or more non-transitory machine-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause:
 receiving selection of a plurality of players comprising a fantasy team, each of the plurality of players corresponding to a real-world person or entity;   monitoring each of the plurality of players to detect false statements made by any of the plurality of players, wherein the monitoring comprises:
 detecting one or more statements made by any of the plurality of players; 
 for each of the statements detected, converting, by a first device, at least a portion of each of the one or more statements into fact checkable information, 
 comparing each of the fact checkable information with respective information from one or more sources to determine factual accuracy of each of the statements; 
   updating a team score associated with the fantasy team based on the false statements made by the plurality of players, wherein the team score that has been updated is caused to be provided to a second device for display.   
     
     
         2 . The one or more non-transitory machine-readable media of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the players of the plurality of players comprises a stock picker, a weather person, a politician, a candidate, an actor, a blog, an anchor, a comedian, an announcer, a sportscaster, a business, an organization, a charity, a host, a guest, a broadcast network, or a website. 
     
     
         3 . The one or more non-transitory machine-readable media of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the players of the plurality of players comprises a non-sport playing person or a non-sport entity. 
     
     
         4 . The one or more non-transitory machine-readable media of  claim 1 , wherein monitoring comprises assigning a first indicator to each of the statements determined to be false and assigning a second indicator, that is different from the first indicator, to each of the statements determined to be true. 
     
     
         5 . The one or more non-transitory machine-readable media of  claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause:
 monitoring each of the plurality of players to detect a pre-specified characterization in the statements made by any of the plurality of players.   
     
     
         6 . The one or more non-transitory machine-readable media of  claim 5 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause:
 updating the team score based on the pre-specified characterization detected in the statements made by any of the plurality of players.   
     
     
         7 . The one or more non-transitory machine-readable media of  claim 5 , wherein the pre-specified characterization comprises at least one of bias, hyperbole, or misinformation. 
     
     
         8 . The one or more non-transitory machine-readable media of  claim 1 , wherein the fantasy team is a first fantasy team, wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause:
 monitoring players of a second fantasy team to detect second false statements made by the players of the second fantasy team;   determining a winner between the first fantasy team and the second fantasy team based on a number of false statements made by the respective players of the first fantasy team and the second fantasy team within a certain time period.   
     
     
         9 . The one or more non-transitory machine-readable media of  claim 1 , wherein monitoring each of the plurality of players comprises monitoring each of the plurality of players more than once over a certain time period. 
     
     
         10 . The one or more non-transitory machine-readable media of  claim 9 , wherein updating the team score comprises updating the team score in response to each monitoring of each of the plurality of players. 
     
     
         11 . A computerized method comprising:
 receiving selection of a plurality of players comprising a fantasy team, each of the plurality of players corresponding to a real-world person or entity;   monitoring each of the plurality of players to detect false statements made by any of the plurality of players, wherein the monitoring comprises:
 detecting one or more statements made by any of the plurality of players; 
 for each of the statements detected, converting, by a first device, at least a portion of each of the one or more statements into fact checkable information, 
 comparing each of the fact checkable information with respective information from one or more sources to determine factual accuracy of each of the statements; 
   updating a team score associated with the fantasy team based on the false statements made by the plurality of players, wherein the team score that has been updated is caused to be provided to a second device for display;   wherein the method is performed by one or more computing devices.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein at least one of the players of the plurality of players comprises a stock picker, a weather person, a politician, a candidate, an actor, a blog, an anchor, a comedian, an announcer, a sportscaster, a business, an organization, a charity, a host, a guest, a broadcast network, or a website. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein at least one of the players of the plurality of players comprises a non-sport playing person or a non-sport entity. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein monitoring comprises assigning a first indicator to each of the statements determined to be false and assigning a second indicator, that is different from the first indicator, to each of the statements determined to be true. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause:
 monitoring each of the plurality of players to detect a pre-specified characterization in the statements made by any of the plurality of players.   
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause:
 updating the team score based on the pre-specified characterization detected in the statements made by any of the plurality of players.   
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the pre-specified characterization comprises at least one of bias, hyperbole, or misinformation. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein the fantasy team is a first fantasy team, wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause:
 monitoring players of a second fantasy team to detect second false statements made by the players of the second fantasy team;   determining a winner between the first fantasy team and the second fantasy team based on a number of false statements made by the respective players of the first fantasy team and the second fantasy team within a certain time period.   
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein monitoring each of the plurality of players comprises monitoring each of the plurality of players more than once over a certain time period. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein updating the team score comprises updating the team score in response to each monitoring of each of the plurality of players.
