Abstract

Techniques for recovery during authentication include initiating sending a HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) authentication message from user equipment of a user to a merchant node of a merchant. If the user is not authenticated in response to the HTTP authentication message, then sending a Short Message Service (SMS) message from the user equipment to the merchant node is initiated. The SMS message indicates a transaction between the user and the merchant. In some embodiments, techniques include changing an access point to a network until an access point utilized is on a list of acceptable access points, in response to a buy response message that indicates a transaction between a merchant and a user. A hypertext transfer protocol authentication message is sent through the access point that is on the list of acceptable access points

Claims

         2 . A method comprising:
 transmitting a hypertext transfer protocol authentication message from a user equipment of a user via a network to a merchant platform, wherein the hypertext transfer protocol authentication message indicates a transaction between the user and a merchant associated with the merchant platform; in response to the hypertext transfer protocol authentication message, receiving at the user equipment a notification that the user is not authenticated for the transaction; in response to the notification, transmitting from the user equipment to the merchant platform a short message service authentication message that indicates the transaction; receiving at the user equipment, in response to an authentication of the user based on the short message service authentication message, from the merchant platform an access code for a product to be delivered according to the transaction; and generating a request to retrieve the product based, at least in part on e access code.

         3 . A method of  claim 2 , further comprising:
 transmitting a buy request message from the user equipment to the merchant platform; and in response to the buy request message, receiving at the user equipment a buy response message from the merchant platform, wherein the buy response message includes a transaction identifier of the transaction, an uniform resource identifier for hypertext transfer protocol authentication, and a short message service address of the merchant.

         4 . A method of claim 3 , wherein the hypertext transfer protocol authentication message includes the transaction identifier.

         5 . A method of claim 3 , wherein the buy response message further comprises short message service recovery data for providing recovery during authentication.

         6 . A method of claim 3 , wherein the short message service message uses the short message service address, and the short message service message includes a network service subscriber identifier of the user equipment and the transaction identifier.

         7 . A method of claim 6 , wherein the network service subscriber identifier of the user equipment include an international mobile subscriber identity, a mobile station international subscriber directory number, or a combination thereof.

         8 . A method of claim 2 , wherein the short message service message is sent from the user equipment without asking permission from the user.

         9 . An apparatus comprising:
 at least one processor; and at least one memory including computer program code for one or more programs, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus that is associated with a service provider to perform at least the following,
 transmit a hypertext transfer protocol authentication message from a user equipment of a user via a network to a merchant platform, wherein the hypertext transfer protocol authentication message indicates a transaction between the user and a merchant associated with the merchant platform;
 in response to the hypertext transfer protocol authentication message, receive at the user equipment a notification that the user is not authenticated for the transaction;
 in response to the notification, transmit from the user equipment to the merchant platform a short message service authentication message that indicates the transaction;
 receive at the user equipment, in response to an authentication of the user based on the short message service authentication message; from the merchant platform an access code for a product to be delivered according to the transaction; and
 generate a request to retrieve the product based, at least in part, on the access code.

         10 . An apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to:
 transmit a buy request message from the user equipment to the merchant platform; and in response to the buy request message, receive at the user equipment a buy response message from the merchant platform, wherein the buy response message includes a transaction identifier of the transaction, an uniform resource identifier for hypertext transfer protocol authentication, and a short message service address of the merchant.

         11 . An apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the hypertext transfer protocol authentication message includes the transaction identifier.

         12 . An apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the buy response message further comprises short message service recovery data for providing recovery during authentication.

         13 . An apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the short message service message uses the short message service address, and the short message service message includes a network service subscriber identifier of the user equipment and the transaction identifier.

         14 . An apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the network service subscriber identifier of the user equipment include an international mobile subscriber identity, a mobile station international subscriber directory number, or a combination thereof.

         15 . An apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the short message service message is sent from the user equipment without asking permission from the user.

         16 . A computer-readable storage medium carrying one or more sequences of one or more instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause an apparatus to at least perform the following steps:
 transmitting a hypertext transfer protocol authentication message from a user equipment of a user via a network to a merchant platform, wherein the hypertext transfer protocol authentication message indicates a transaction between the user and a merchant associated with the merchant platform; in response to the hypertext transfer protocol authentication message, receiving at the user equipment a notification that the user is not authenticated for the transaction; in response to the notification, transmitting from the user equipment to the merchant platform a short message service authentication message that indicates the transaction; receiving at the user equipment, in response to an authentication of the user based on the short message service authentication message, from the merchant platform an access code for a product to be delivered according to the transaction; and generating a request to retrieve the product based, at least in part, on the access code.

         17 . A computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the apparatus is caused to further perform:
