Abstract

This invention relates to shipping pallets 10 that may be constructed, at least in part, from structural members 100 that are largely fabricated from paper and paper based materials. One or more of the structural members 100 may include a wrapper 60 secured in tension to a core 20 . The core 20 may include one or more laminated fiberboard sheets 40 . Because of the use of paper and paper based materials, the one or more aspects of shipping pallets 10 in accordance with the present inventions may be recycled.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An apparatus, comprising:
a shipping pallet including at least an upper deck and one or more runners, at least one of the upper deck or the one or more runners including a structural member, the structural member comprising a core, at least one adhesive and a wrapper,
the core formed from a recyclable paper based material,
the core defining at least a first core surface, a second core surface, a core lower surface and a core upper surface,
 the at least one adhesive selected for compatibility with recycling of paper based materials;
 the wrapper comprising paper, and
the paper of the wrapper secured in tension over at least a portion of at least one of the first core surface, the second core surface, the core lower surface or the core upper surface of the core, the tension in the paper being at least 0.5 pounds per square inch to prestress the structural member, and
all materials of the structural member selected for recyclability in recycling processes for paper based materials.

2 . An apparatus, as in claim 1 , the paper of the wrapper secured in tension to the core with the tension being at least 2.0 pounds per square inch.

3 . An apparatus, as in claim 1 , the paper of the wrapper secured in tension to the core with the tension being at least 3.0 pounds per square inch.

4 . An apparatus, as in claim 1 , the paper of the wrapper secured in tension to the core with the tension being at least 4.0 pounds per square inch.

5 . The apparatus, as in claim 1 , further comprising the structural member comprising the core and the wrapper, forming at least a portion of the upper deck.

6 . The apparatus, as in claim 1 , further comprising the core configured from a plurality of fiberboard sheets.

7 . The apparatus, as in claim 6 , further comprising the fiberboard sheets comprising a corrugated cardboard.

8 . The apparatus, as in claim 7 , further comprising the wrapper comprising as a first wrapper and a second wrapper, the paper of the first wrapper secured in tension to the core lower surface and the paper of the second wrapper secured in tension to the core upper surface, the tension in the paper of the first wrapper being at least 1.0 pounds per square foot greater than the tension in the paper of the second wrapper.

9 . A shipping pallet, comprising: at least one structural member formed from a means for forming an internal support structure and a means for wrapping to place the means for forming an internal support structure in compression, the means for wrapping secured in tension over at least a portion of the means for forming an internal support structure, the tension being at least 3.0 pounds per square foot.

10 . A structural member, comprising: a core formed from laminated corrugated cardboard, the core defining at least a first core surface, a second core surface, a core lower surface and a core upper surface; and a wrapper consisting essentially of a paper, the paper of the wrapper secured with a tension of at least 2.0 pound per square inch over at least a portion of at least the first core surface, the second core surface, the core lower surface and the core upper surface of the core.
