Mazindol Combination In The Treatment Of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity

Abstract

The present invention relates to the field of human health, and more particularly to the treatment of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with mazindol. The latter can be administered as monotherapy or in combination with one or more compounds, including psychostimulants, for the indication of ADHD and associated or co-morbid symptoms.

         16 . A pharmaceutical composition for treating attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) comprising mazindol in an amount effective to treat ADHD and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, and further comprising iron, or one of its pharmaceutically acceptable salts. 
     
     
         17 . The composition of  claim 16  wherein the composition is an oral composition. 
     
     
         18 . The composition of  claim 16  wherein the iron is in the form of a ferrous salt or a ferric salt. 
     
     
         19 . The composition of  claim 18  wherein the iron is in the form of ferric ammonium citrate, ferric pyrophosphate, ferrocholinate, ferrous abscorbate, ferrous aspartate, ferrous chloride, ferrous sulphate, ferrous tartrate, ferrous fumarate, ferrous gluconate, ferrous gluceptate, ferrous sulphate glycine, ferrous lactate, ferrous oxalate, or ferrous succinate. 
     
     
         20 . The composition of  claim 19  wherein the iron is in the form of ferrous sulphate. 
     
     
         21 . The composition of  claim 20  wherein the iron is in the form of gastro-protected ferrous sulphate. 
     
     
         22 . The composition of  claim 16  wherein the iron is in the form of dextran iron, sucrose iron, poly-maltose iron, or sorbitol iron. 
     
     
         23 . The composition of  claim 16  wherein the iron is in the form of pharmaceutically acceptable organic iron. 
     
     
         24 . The composition of  claim 23  wherein the iron is in the form of iron glycinate, iron biglycinate, or iron protein succinylate. 
     
     
         25 . The composition of  claim 16  further comprising a psychostimulant. 
     
     
         26 . The composition of  claim 16  wherein the iron is in the form of ferrous sulphate, and the ferrous sulphate is between 0.1 mg and 10 mg. 
     
     
         27 . The composition of  claim 16  wherein the iron is in the form of ferrous sulphate, and the ferrous sulphate is between 100 mg and 2 g. 
     
     
         28 . The composition of  claim 16  wherein the iron is in the form of ferrous sulphate, and the ferrous sulphate is approximately 500 mg. 
     
     
         29 . The composition of  claim 16  wherein the mazindol is between 1 and 2 mg.
