Abstract

A head protection assembly is worn on a user's head to protect against impacts to the user's head. The assembly includes a helmet for wearing on a user's head. The helmet has an inner surface positioned opposite an outer surface. The inner surface surrounds the user's head when the helmet is worn on the user's head. The helmet has a forward opening. The forward opening has a perimeter edge for positioning around a face of the user's head. A cover is positionable on the helmet such that the cover covers the outer surface of the helmet. A pad is coupled to an interior surface of the cover such that the pad abuts the outer surface of the helmet when the cover is positioned on the helmet.

Claims

I claim:

         1 . A head protection assembly comprising:
a helmet configured to be worn on a user's head, said helmet having an inner surface positioned opposite an outer surface, said inner surface being configured to surround the user's head when said helmet is worn on the user's head, said helmet having a forward opening, said forward opening having a perimeter edge configured for positioning around a face of the user's head; a cover positionable on said helmet such that said cover covers said outer surface of said helmet; and a pad coupled to an interior surface of said cover such that said pad abuts said outer surface of said helmet when said cover is positioned on said helmet.

2 . The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising said cover being adhesively coupled to said helmet.

3 . The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising each of said inner and outer surfaces of said helmet being curvilinear such that said helmet is bowl-shaped.

4 . The assembly of claim 3 , further comprising:
said cover having a rear section and a top section coupled together, said cover further including a pair of side sections coupled to and extending downwardly from said top section, said side sections being coupled to and extending forwardly from said rear section defining a pair of flaps; and said helmet having a bottom edge, each of said flaps being extendable around said bottom edge of said helmet and said perimeter edge of said forward opening of said helmet.

5 . The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising wherein said pad includes a plurality of elongated strips coupled to and extending across said interior surface of said cover.

6 . The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising wherein said pad comprises a resiliently compressible material.

7 . The assembly of claim 6 , further comprising wherein said resiliently compressible material comprises foam.

8 . The assembly of claim 3 , further comprising:
said cover having a rear section and a top section coupled together, said cover further including a pair of side sections coupled to and extending downwardly from said top section, said side sections being coupled to and extending forwardly from said rear section defining a pair of flaps; each of said side sections of said cover having a pair of holes positioned therein; and said helmet having a pair of apertures positioned therein, said holes being alignable with said apertures when said cover is positioned on said helmet.

9 . The assembly of claim 5 , further comprising said strips being arranged into a plurality of pad sections extending across said interior surface of said cover.

10 . The assembly of claim 9 , further comprising said strips of each of said pad sections including strips of increased thickness and strips of decreased thickness relative to each other, each said strip of increased thickness being positioned adjacent to an associated strip of decreased thickness.

11 . The assembly of claim 5 , further comprising each of said strips tapering inwardly toward distal ends of said associated strip.

12 . The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising said cover being flexible.

         13 . A head protection assembly comprising:
a helmet configured to be worn on a user's head, said helmet having an inner surface positioned opposite an outer surface, each of said inner and outer surfaces of said helmet being curvilinear such that said helmet is bowl-shaped, said inner surface being configured to surround the user's head when said helmet is worn on the user's head, said helmet having a forward opening, said forward opening having a perimeter edge configured for positioning around a face of the user's head, said helmet having a bottom edge, said helmet having a pair of apertures positioned therein; a cover positionable on said helmet such that said cover covers said outer surface of said helmet, said cover being flexible, said cover being adhesively coupled to said helmet, said cover having a rear section and a top section coupled together, said cover further including a pair of side sections coupled to and extending downwardly from said top section, said side sections being coupled to and extending forwardly from said rear section defining a pair of flaps, each of said flaps being extendable around said bottom edge of said helmet and said perimeter edge of said forward opening of said helmet, each of said side sections of said cover having a pair of holes positioned therein, said holes being alignable with said apertures when said cover is positioned on said helmet; and a pad coupled to an interior surface of said cover such that said pad abuts said outer surface of said helmet when said cover is positioned on said helmet, said pad including a plurality of elongated strips coupled to and extending across said interior surface of said cover, said strips being arranged into a plurality of pad sections extending across said interior surface of said cover, said strips of each of said pad sections including strips of increased thickness and strips of decreased thickness relative to each other, each said strip of increased thickness being positioned adjacent to an associated strip of decreased thickness, each of said strips tapering inwardly toward distal ends of said associated strip, said pad comprising a resiliently compressible foam material.
