System and method for a vertically carried golf bag

Abstract

The disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for ergonomically carrying golf clubs. The method and apparatus entails dual shoulder straps to securely support a golf bag between the user's shoulder blades in an upright vertical orientation. A lifting loop provides a means for safely lifting the vertical golf bag onto the user's back with minimal arm strength by using leg and core muscles.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A vertically carried golf bag for carrying golf clubs and golf accessories comprising:
 a substantially cylindrical container closed at a bottom end and open at a top end;   a left shoulder strap attached to the substantially cylindrical container at an upper attachment point 8-11 inches from the top end of the substantially cylindrical container and a lower attachment near the bottom end of the substantially cylindrical container;   a right shoulder strap attached to the substantially cylindrical container at an upper attachment point 8-11 inches from the top end of the substantially cylindrical container and a lower attachment near the bottom end of the substantially cylindrical container;   a lifting loop attached at two attachment points to an upper portion of the substantially cylindrical container, the two attachment points on a same horizontal plane of the cylindrical container, the midpoint of the lifting loop directly above the upper attachment point of either the left or right shoulder strap, the lifting loop formed of a semi-rigid plastic or rubber material;
 wherein the right shoulder strap and the left shoulder strap are attached equidistant to a longitudinal axis of the substantially cylindrical container such that when both right and left shoulder straps are engaged, the vertically carried golf bag is vertically oriented between a user's shoulders; 
 further wherein, the lifting loop is attached over the left shoulder strap for left handed users and over the right shoulder strap for right handed users. 
   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the bottom end of the substantially cylindrical container is substantially flat to hold the golf bag upright when the vertically carried golf bag is placed on a level plane. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the left and right shoulder straps comprises padding along a portion of their length. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising
 a plurality of tubes inside the substantially cylindrical container, each tube having a top opening and a bottom, each tube obstructed at different heights from the bottom of the tube, the tubes arranged in descending order from the highest level of obstruction to the lowest level of obstruction, the tubes with highest level of obstruction nearest to the left and right shoulder straps.   
     
     
         5 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising
 a slanted filler material, adapted to fill the bottom end of the vertically carried golf bag to slant the bottom end from a high point to a low point with the high point being closest to the left and right shoulder straps.   
     
     
         6 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the left and right shoulder straps are adjustable in length. 
     
     
         7 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the lifting loop is detachably attached to the substantially cylindrical container such that the lifting loop is removable and re-attachable above either the right or left upper attachment point. 
     
     
         8 . The apparatus of  claim 7 , wherein the lifting loop is detachably attached to the substantially cylindrical container by one or more of: button snaps, straps, snap hooks, and carabiners.

         12 . A vertically oriented golf bag for carrying golf clubs and golf accessories comprising:
 a substantially cylindrical container closed at a bottom end and open at a top end;   a left shoulder strap attached at one end 8-11 inches from a top of the substantially cylindrical container and attached at the opposite end to a lower portion of the substantially cylindrical container;   a right shoulder strap attached at one end 8-11 inches from the top of the substantially cylindrical container and attached at the opposite end to the lower portion of the substantially cylindrical container;   a lifting loop attached at two attachment points to the upper portion of the substantially cylindrical container, the two attachment points on a same horizontal plane of the cylindrical container, a midpoint of the lifting loop directly above the upper end of the right shoulder strap, the lifting loop formed of a semi-rigid plastic or rubber material;   a hip strap attached at opposite ends to the lower portion of the substantially cylindrical container; and   a plurality of pockets integral with the substantially cylindrical container for holding golf accessories;
 wherein the right shoulder strap and the left shoulder strap are attached equidistant to a longitudinal axis of the substantially cylindrical container such that when both right and left shoulder straps are engaged, the vertically oriented golf bag is vertically oriented between a user's shoulders; and 
 wherein the hip strap is attached to the vertically carried golf bag at two points equidistant to the longitudinal axis of the substantially cylindrical container; 
 further wherein, the lifting loop is attached over the left shoulder strap for left handed users and over the right shoulder strap for right handed users. 
   
     
     
         13 . The apparatus of  claim 12 , wherein the bottom end of the substantially cylindrical container is substantially flat to hold the vertically oriented golf bag upright when the golf bag is placed on a level plane. 
     
     
         14 . The apparatus of  claim 12 , wherein the left and right shoulder straps comprises padding along a portion of their length. 
     
     
         15 . The apparatus of  claim 12 , wherein the hip strap comprises padding along a portion of its length. 
     
     
         16 . The apparatus of  claim 12 , wherein the hip strap comprises
 a second section attached at a proximal end to the vertically oriented golf bag and attached at a distal end to a female component of a quick release buckle, wherein the male and female components are complementary components of the quick release buckle.   
     
     
         17 . The apparatus of  claim 12 , wherein the hip straps and left and right shoulder straps are adjustable in length. 
     
     
         18 . The apparatus of  claim 12 , further comprising
 a plurality of tubes, each tube having an opening and a bottom, each tube obstructed at different heights from the bottom of the tube, the tubes arranged in descending order from the highest level of obstruction to the lowest level of obstruction, with the highest level of obstruction nearest to the left and right shoulder straps.   
     
     
         19 . The apparatus of  claim 12 , further comprising
 a slanted filler material, adapted to fill the bottom end of the vertically oriented golf bag to slant the bottom end from a high point to a low point with the high point being closest to the left and right shoulder straps.   
     
     
         20 . The apparatus of  claim 12 , wherein the lifting loop is detachably attached to the substantially cylindrical container such that the lifting loop is removable and re-attachable above either the right or left upper attachment point.
