Deck flashing trim system
Abstract
An article of flashing for a deck includes a channel with a back leg, a first side leg, and a second side leg and further includes an attachment flange fixedly connected to the channel where the channel is adapted to receive decking. A deck flashing system includes a deck with a surface and at least one edge, decking forming the surface of the deck, and flashing extending along the at least one edge, the flashing having a channel adapted to receive the decking. A method of trimming a deck includes erecting deck framing, installing decking on the framing, and installing flashing on at least one edge or the entire perimeter of the deck.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An article of flashing for a deck comprising:
a channel with a back leg, a first side leg, and a second side leg; and an attachment flange fixedly connected to the channel, wherein the channel is adapted to receive decking.
2 . The article of claim 1 , wherein the decking has a thickness and the channel has a height, the height being slightly greater than thickness.
3 . The article of claim 2 , wherein the first side leg is substantially parallel to the second side leg.
4 . The article of claim 3 , wherein the first and second side legs are substantially perpendicular to the back leg.
5 . The article of claim 4 , wherein the channel has a depth, the depth being defined by a gap width and a length of overlap between the channel and the decking.
6 . The article of claim 1 , wherein the attachment flange is connected to the outer edge of the first side leg and extends in a direction generally away from the channel.
7 . The article of claim 6 , wherein the attachment flange is oriented substantially parallel to the first side leg.
8 . The article of claim 6 , wherein the attachment flange is oriented substantially perpendicular to the first side leg.
9 . The article of claim 8 , further comprising a skirt flange fixedly connected to the channel at the intersection of the back leg and the second side leg.
10 . The article of claim 9 , wherein the skirt flange extends away from the channel and is oriented substantially parallel to the second side leg.
11 . The article of claim 9 , further comprising a drip edge fixedly connected to a free edge of the skirt flange.
12 . The article of claim 11 , wherein the drip edge is substantially perpendicular to the skirt flange and extends in the same direction relative to the skirt flange as the back leg.
13 . The article of claim 8 , further comprising a siding flange fixedly connected to the channel at the intersection of the back leg and the second side leg.
14 . The article of claim 13 , wherein the siding flange extends away from the channel and is oriented substantially perpendicular to the second side leg.
15 . A deck flashing system comprising:
a deck with a surface and at least one edge; decking forming the surface of the deck; and flashing extending along the at least one edge, the flashing having a channel adapted to receive the decking.
16 . The deck flashing system of claim 15 , wherein the flashing further comprises an attachment flange.
17 . The deck flashing system of claim 16 , wherein the flashing further comprises a skirt flange.
18 . A method of trimming a deck comprising:
erecting deck framing; installing decking on the framing; and installing flashing on at least one edge of the deck.
19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the flashing has a channel adapted to receive decking.
20 . The method of claim 19 , the channel having a back leg, the method further comprising providing a gap between the decking and the back leg of the channel to accommodate expansion and contraction of the decking.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
