Abstract

Pre-processing of electrical power grid data for event-driven automatic generation control (AGC) is presented herein. An area control error (ACE) component can determine AGC output data for output to a unit controller that controls at least one power generator related to an electrical power grid, based on current values of a subset of electrical power grid data associated with the electrical power grid that has changed since a prior determination that the electrical power grid data has changed. A pre-process component can determine the subset of the electrical power grid data that has changed since the prior determination, and send the current values of the subset of the electrical power grid data to the ACE component. An event-driven component can determine information in response to an event trigger generated based on processing the current values of the subset of the electrical power grid data received from the pre-process component.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the determining that the first portion of the current values has changed comprises determining whether a given change for a respective electrical power grid data point constitutes a significant change that is included in the subset or constitutes an insignificant change that is not included in the subset.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the determining whether the given change constitutes the significant change or the insignificant change comprises determining whether the given change constitutes the significant change or the insignificant change based on an analysis of a defined number of significant digits for the given change.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the electrical power grid data represents at least one of a power flow of a tie line of the electrical power grid, a frequency of the electrical power grid, an output associated with a power source of the electrical power grid, or an output associated with a virtual power plant of the electrical power grid.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the electrical power grid data represents at least one of a schedule of tie line power associated with a tie line of the electrical power grid or a schedule of generated power associated with a power source of the electrical power grid.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the determining that the first portion of the current values has changed comprises determining a change in power flow of a tie line of a group of tie lines of the electrical power grid.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the delaying the calculation comprises:
in response to determining the change in power flow of the tie line, delaying a summation of power flows of the group of tie lines for the defined period of time.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the delaying the calculation comprises delaying the calculation based on a probability that a batch of changes, which are dependent on at least one of the current values, will be received within the defined period of time.

9 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising:
periodically determining North American electric reliability corporation (NERC) information utilizing the current values.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the electrical power grid data comprises supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) data associated with the electrical power grid.

         11 . A method, comprising:
determining, by a system comprising a processor, current values of electrical power grid data associated with an electrical power grid; and in response to determining, by the system, that a first value of the current values has changed since a prior determination that at least some of the electrical power grid data has changed, delaying, by the system, a calculation corresponding to a second value of the current values for a defined period of time.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the determining that the first value has changed comprises determining whether the first value has changed based on a defined precision level applied for the first value.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the determining that the first value has changed comprises determining a change in power flow of a tie line of a group of tie lines of the electrical power grid.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the delaying the calculation comprises:
in response to determining the change in power flow of the tie line, delaying a summation of power flows of the group of tie lines for the defined period of time.

15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the delaying the calculation comprises delaying the calculation based on a probability that a batch of changes, which are dependent on at least one of the current values, will be received within the defined period of time.

16 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:
periodically determining, by the system, North American electric reliability corporation (NERC) information utilizing the current values.

17 . A machine-readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
receiving values of electrical power grid data associated with an electrical power grid; and in response to determining that a first portion of the values has changed relative to previous values of the electrical power grid data, postponing a calculation corresponding to a second portion of the values for a defined period of time.
