Abstract

A handheld wireless communication device (HWCD) establishes an ad hoc network comprising interconnected networks for a user. The HWCD gains access to content on a first device and controls communication of the content from the first device via the HWCD to a second device. The HWCD enables the second device to consume the content. The content may be streamed from the first device via the HWCD to the second device. The first device is a service provider network device or other network device. The access may be authenticated and/or secure. Secure access to the content is extended from the first device to the second device. The ad hoc network is configured and/or reconfigured until communication is complete. The HWCD comprises multiple wireless interfaces. The ad hoc network comprises a PAN, WLAN, WAN and/or cellular network. The HWCD may hand-off among base stations during communication of the content.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An electronic device comprising:
 circuitry configured to
 establish a wireless link with a content rendering device;
 access content for display; and
 control transmission of the content to the content rendering device via the wireless link for rendering by the content rendering device.

         2 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein
 the wireless link is established as a secure wireless link with the content rendering device.

         3 . The electronic device  claim 1 , wherein
 the circuitry is configured to establish a second wireless link to access the content from a network device.

         4 . The electronic device of claim 3 , wherein
 the second wireless link is a cellular link.

         5 . The electronic device of claim 3 , wherein
 the second wireless link is a wireless local area network link.

         6 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein
 the content comprises content streamed from a network device.

         7 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein
 the content is displayed by the content rendering device and the electronic device.

         8 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein
 the circuitry is configured to control reproduction of the content by the content rendering device.

         9 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein
 the circuitry is configured to convert a format of the content prior to controlling transmission of the content to the content rendering device.

         10 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein
 the circuitry is configured to control another network device to convert a format of the content prior to controlling transmission of the content to the content rendering device.

         11 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein
 the electronic device is configured to access the content from a handheld wireless communication device (HWCD).

         12 . A handheld wireless communication device (HWCD) comprising:
 circuitry configured to
 establish a wireless local area network (WLAN) connection with a content rendering device;
 access content from a network device over the Internet for rendering by the content rendering device; and
 transmit the content to the content rendering device via the WLAN connection for rendering by the content rendering device.

         13 . The HWCD of claim 12 , further comprising:
 a display, wherein the display is configured to display a user interface configured to receive an input to control reproduction of the content at the content rendering device.

         14 . The HWCD of  claim 12 , wherein
 the content is music content and the content rendering device is a speaker, or the content is video content and the content rendering device is a television.

         15 . The HWCD of  claim 12 , wherein
 the circuitry is configured to control reproduction of the content by the content rendering device.

         16 . The HWCD of  claim 12 , wherein
 the circuitry is configured to convert a format of the content prior to transmitting the content to the content rendering device.

         17 . A content rendering device comprising:
 circuitry configured to
 establish a wireless local area network (WLAN) connection with handheld wireless communication device (HWCD);
 receive, from the HWCD, content for rendering received by the HWCD from a network device over the Internet; and
 render the content received from the HWCD.

         18 . The content rendering device of claim 17 , wherein
 the content rendering device is a television, and the content is video content.

         19 . The content rendering device of claim 17 , wherein
 the content rendering device is a speaker, and the content is music content.

         20 . The content rendering device of claim 17 , wherein
 the circuitry is configured to receive commands controlling rendering of the content from the HWCD.
