Pillow with gusset of open cell construction

Abstract

A pillow is provided herein which includes a cover having opposing first and second panels. A gusset perimetrically bounds, and joins, the first and second panels. The gusset is formed of an open cell construction. Compliant fill material is disposed within the cover. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a pillow is provided allowing for lateral ventilation between opposing panels. This permits a cooling effect while a user is resting or sleeping.

         14 . A pillow comprising:
 a first panel having an edge defining a perimeter;   a second panel having an edge defining a perimeter;   a gusset joining said first and second panels, said first panel, said second panel and said gusset define a cover; and   a fill material disposed within said cover configured to facilitate support of said pillow in a selected sleep position.   
     
     
         15 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said fill material is configured to provide correct alignment to a user's head and neck when the user is in the selected sleep position. 
     
     
         16 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said selected sleep position is a stomach sleeping position. 
     
     
         17 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said selected sleep position is a back sleeping position. 
     
     
         18 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said selected sleep position is a side sleeping position. 
     
     
         19 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said fill material comprises a microfiber. 
     
     
         20 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said fill material comprises a blend of conjugate and hollow slick fiber. 
     
     
         21 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said fill material comprises cluster/ball fiber. 
     
     
         22 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said fill material comprises a compliant material. 
     
     
         23 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said fill material comprises a gel. 
     
     
         24 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , further comprising an inner cover disposed inside of said cover, at least a portion of said fill material being disposed within said inner cover. 
     
     
         25 . A pillow as recited in  claim 24 , wherein said fill material is a compliant fill material that includes first and second solid foam layers located on opposing sides of said inner cover within said cover. 
     
     
         26 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein:
 a first end of said gusset engages said edge of said first panel such that said gusset extends continuously about an entire portion of the perimeter of the first panel; and   a second end of said gusset opposite said first end engages said edge of said second panel such that said gusset extends continuously about an entire portion of the perimeter of the second panel.   
     
     
         27 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said gusset perimetrically bounds said first and second panels. 
     
     
         28 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said first and second panels each define a generally rectangular footprint common with said gusset. 
     
     
         29 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said first and second panels are arcuately bowed out in opposing directions. 
     
     
         30 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said first panel is formed with a moisture dispersing material. 
     
     
         31 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein at least one of said first panel and said second panel comprise a material selected from a group consisting of: a 100% polyester fabric, rayon, nylon, or a spandex-blend fabric. 
     
     
         32 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said gusset is formed of an open cell construction, said open cell construction being formed by strands defining a mesh configuration. 
     
     
         33 . A pillow as recited in  claim 14 , wherein said gusset comprises two longer longitudinal portions joined by two shorter end portions, the longitudinal portions being contiguous with the end portions.
