Claims

Abstract

There is provided a hybrid boat hull having a forward center vee-section extending from the bow and becoming shallower as the vee-shaped bow transitions aft to ensure the boat will not slam or pound in a seaway and additional lift generated by buffered air under the hull. The hull of the boat incorporates a centerline vee-hull which becomes shallower as it transitions aft to further enhance trapping air under the vessel to provide lift. The hull also includes a pair of spaced apart outboard sponsons extending from and below said central hull, beginning from above the center line of the vee-hull at the forward end to below the centerline vee-bow portion of the hull at the aft end. The outboard sponsons are connected to each other in such a manner as to provide a means to trap air, water, or a mixture of air and water between said sponsons.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A boat hull comprising:
 (a) a forward central vee shaped section extending from the bow and becoming shallower as the vee-shaped bow transitions aft; and   (b) a pair of spaced apart outboard sponsons extending from and below said central hull, beginning from above the center line of the vee-hull at the forward end to below the centerline vee-bow portion of the hull at the aft end; and   (c) said outboard sponsons connected to each other in such a manner as to provide a means to trap air, water, or a mixture of air and water between said sponsons and said hull bottom thereby providing lift to the hull.   
     
     
         2 . The boat hull according to  claim 1  wherein said sponsons are blended in with the bow and are effectively a part of the vee-bow above the waterline. 
     
     
         3 . The boat hull according to  claim 2  wherein said sponsons are blended into the deep vee for a longer length in the bow and said sponsons develop aft of the forward perpendicular. 
     
     
         4 . The boat hull according to  claim 1  wherein said vee bow has a depth and width along the length of the hull sufficient to provide longitudinal stability and strength to the hull. 
     
     
         5 . The boat hull according to  claim 1  wherein said outboard sponsons originate above the waterline and forward the vessel forward perpendicular of said central hull ultimately extending below the waterline as the sponsons transition aft. 
     
     
         6 . The boat hull of according to  claim 1  wherein said outboard sponsons originate at or aft of the vessel forward perpendicular of said central hull ultimately extending below the vessel centerline as the sponsons transition aft. 
     
     
         7 . The boat hull according to  claim 1  wherein said sponsons are of sufficient width and depth in the aft portion to accommodate engines and drive mechanisms to be mounted inside said sponsons. 
     
     
         8 . The boat hull according to  claim 1  wherein the bottom of said sponsons have an inboard angle that increases the wing in ground effect during semi-planning or planning without impairing the vessel during turns. 
     
     
         9 . The boat hull according to  claim 1  wherein said sponsons are adjusted in width and depth to match the weight of the engines and jet drives and projected cargo aft thereby tuning the hull with respect to underwater volume and buoyancy. 
     
     
         10 . A boat hull for conveyance across a fluid compromising:
 (a) a central vee shaped hull extending from the bow and becoming shallower as the vee-shaped bow transitions aft, said central hull providing a means of generating lift while moving across said fluid; and   (b) a pair of outboard sponsons having an open space there between and extending below said central hull providing a means to trap air, water, or a mixture thereof providing lift to the hull.   
     
     
         11 . The boat hull according to  claim 10  wherein said outboard sponsons become wider as said sponsons transition aft. 
     
     
         12 . The boat hull according to  claim 10  wherein said open space between said outboard sponsons creates funnels air and water by remaining constant, becoming narrower, or increasing as the sponsons transition aft. 
     
     
         13 . The boat hull according to  claim 10  wherein the width and depth of said outboard sponsons are adjusted to match buoyancy of the hull to the desired weight distribution. 
     
     
         14 . The boat hull according to  claim 10  wherein the width and depth of said outboard sponsons are adjusted as a means to adjust transverse stability of the hull. 
     
     
         15 . The boat hull according to  claim 10  wherein the width and depth of said outboard sponsons are adjusted as a means to adjust longitudinal stability and strength of the hull. 
     
     
         16 . The boat hull according to  claim 10  wherein the width and depth of said outboard sponsons are adjusted as a means to adjust station keeping abilities of the hull. 
     
     
         17 . The boat hull according to  claim 10  wherein said outboard sponsons are adjusted in width and depth to match the weight of the engines and jet drives and projected cargo or deck equipment aft thereby tuning the hull with respect to underwater volume and buoyancy. 
     
     
         18 . The boat hull according to  claim 10  wherein said central hull has a vee forward section which becomes notably shallower and as it extends aft to the transom of the hull. 
     
     
         19 . The boat hull according to  claim 10  further comprising:
 (a) the vee bow and sponsons are adjusted to delay development of the bow wave until the bow wave is trapped between the underwater portion of the sponsons generating lift on the hull; and 
 (b) a step or steps are added to said sponsons and or in said vee bow. 
 
     
     
         20 . The boat hull according to  claim 10  wherein said boat hull is part of a ship sufficiently large to house a smaller boat that can be housed inside said ship, said ship further comprising:
 (a) a transom of said ship open to deploy said smaller boat; 
 (b) said smaller boat capable of being launched from said ship while said ship is underway; and 
 (c) the deck inside said ship from which said smaller boat is launched is at or near said ship's waterline.
