Abstract

An adjustable bathing facility safety handle device positions across an opening into a bathtub bathing facility providing a handle to support a person when needed. The device includes a bathing facility having a pair of opposed faces. Each of a pair of rails is coupled to an associated one of the opposed faces. Each of a plurality of apertures is positioned in an associated one of the rails. A handle is elongated and comprises a medial section and a pair of outer sections. Each of the outer sections is insertable into a selectable one of the apertures in an associated one of the rails wherein the handle is positionable at a selectable position extending between the rails.

I claim:

1 . An adjustable bathing facility safety handle device comprising:
a bathing facility having a pair of opposed faces; a pair of rails, each rail being coupled to an associated one of said opposed faces; a plurality of apertures, each of said apertures being positioned in an associated one of said rails; and a handle, said handle being elongated, said handle having a medial section and a pair of outer sections, each of said outer sections being insertable into a selectable one of said apertures in an associated one of said rails wherein said handle is positionable at a selectable position extending between said rails.

2 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising each said rail comprising a base wall and a pair of side walls coupled to and extending from said base wall.

3 . The device of claim 2 , further comprising a pair of alignment plates, each said alignment plate being positioned in an associated one of said rails, each said outer section extending through an associated one of said alignment plates.

4 . The device of claim 3 , further comprising each said rail comprising a pair of flanges, said flanges retaining said alignment plate in said associated one of said rails.

5 . The device of claim 2 , further comprising, each said rail comprising an interior wall positioned between said side walls, said interior wall being parallel to said base wall, each of said apertures extending through said interior wall of said associated rail.

6 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising each of said outer sections being retractable relative to said medial section wherein opposed ends of said handle are selectively disengageable from said apertures by retraction of said outer sections of said handle.

7 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising:
a pair of slots, each slot extending through said medial section of said handle; and a pair of grips, each grip being slidably coupled to an associated one of said outer sections of said handle, each said grip having a neck extending through an associated one of said slots.

8 . The device of claim 6 , further comprising a pair of biasing members, each said biasing member urging an associated one of said outer sections outwardly relative to said medial section of said handle.

9 . The device of claim 8 , further comprising a pair of chambers positioned in said medial section of said handle, each said biasing member being positioned in an associated one of said chambers.

10 . The device of claim 9 , further comprising each said outer section comprising a shaft extending into an associated one of said chambers through an associated hole.

11 . The device of claim 10 , further comprising each said outer section comprising a head positioned in said associated one of said chambers, said head having an outer edge offset from said hole wherein said head is prevented from passing through said associated hole.

12 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising each said outer section comprising an end cap, said end cap having a hemi-spherical outer surface facilitating insertion of said outer section into said selectable one of said apertures.

13 . An adjustable bathing facility safety handle device comprising:
a bathing facility having a pair of opposed faces; a pair of rails, each rail being coupled to an associated one of said opposed faces, each said rail comprising a base wall and a pair of side walls coupled to and extending from said base wall, each said rail comprising a pair of flanges, each said rail comprising an interior wall positioned between said side walls, said interior wall being parallel to said base wall; a plurality of apertures, each of said apertures being positioned in an associated one of said rails, each of said apertures extending through said interior wall of said associated rail; a handle, said handle being elongated, said handle having a medial section and a pair of outer sections, each of said outer sections being insertable into a selectable one of said apertures in an associated one of said rails wherein said handle is positionable at a selectable position extending between said rails, each of said outer sections being retractable relative to said medial section wherein opposed ends of said handle are selectively disengageable from said apertures by retraction of said outer sections of said handle; a pair of alignment plates, each said alignment plate being positioned in an associated one of said rails, each said outer section extending through an associated one of said alignment plates, said flanges retaining each said respective alignment plate in said associated one of said rails; a pair of slots, each slot extending through said medial section of said handle; a pair of grips, each grip being slidably coupled to an associated one of said outer sections of said handle, each said grip having a neck extending through an associated one of said slots; a pair of biasing members, each said biasing member urging an associated one of said outer sections outwardly relative to said medial section of said handle; a pair of chambers positioned in said medial section of said handle, each said biasing member being positioned in an associated one of said chambers; and
each said outer section comprising a shaft extending into an associated one of said chambers through an associated hole, each said outer section comprising a head positioned in said associated one of said chambers, said head having an outer edge offset from said hole wherein said head is prevented from passing through said associated hole, each said outer section comprising an end cap, said end cap having a hemi-spherical outer surface facilitating insertion of said outer section into said selectable one of said apertures.
