Abstract

Disclosed is a composition containing an active ingredient or ingredients comprising an extract or extracts of one or more constituents selected from the group consisting of Astragalus membranaceus, Saururus chinensis, Glycyrrhizae radix , rose, rhubarb, Acanthopanax senticosus and cortex Phellodendri . The composition is efficacious in suppressing acneiform pigment deposition and/or pitted scars, and can be used to advantage in various ways in the fields of cosmetics, foods and drugs.

10 . A method for suppressing acnegenic pigmentation comprising administering an effective amount of a composition comprising one or more extracts selected from the group consisting of Astragalus membranaceus , rhubarb ( Rheum undulatum ), and Acanthopanax senticosus to a subject in need thereof.

11 . A method for aftercare of acne comprising administering an effective amount of a composition comprising an extract of Astragalus membranaceus to a subject in need thereof.

12 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more extracts selected from the group consisting of Saururus chinensis, Glycyrrhizae radix , and rose.

13 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more extracts selected from the group consisting of Saururus chinensis, Glycyrrhizae radix , rose, rhubarb ( Rheum undulatum ), Acanthopanax senticosus , and Phellodendri cortex.

14 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein the composition is a composition for external skin application.

15 . The method according to claim 12 , wherein one or more extracts selected from the group consisting of Astragalus membranaceus, Saururus chinensis, Glycyrrhizae radix , rose, rhubarb ( Rheum undulatum ), Acanthopanax senticosus , and Phellodendri cortex is present in the composition in an amount of 0.1-20 wt % based on the total weight of the composition.

16 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein the composition is a cosmetic composition.

17 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein the composition is a pharmaceutical composition.

18 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein the composition is a food additive or health food.

19 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the composition is a food additive or health food composition.

20 . A method for suppressing acnegenic pigmentation comprising administering an effective amount of a composition to a subject in need thereof, wherein the composition comprises:
one or more extracts selected from the group consisting of Astragalus membranaceus , rhubarb ( Rheum undulatum ), Acanthopanax senticosus , and Phellodendri cortex ; and one or more extracts selected from the group consisting of Saururus chinensis, Glycyrrhizae radix , and rose.

21 . A method for inhibiting acnegenic sebum production comprising administering an effective amount of a composition comprising one or more extracts selected from the group consisting of Astragalus membranaceus, Saururus chinensis, Glycyrrhizae radix , rose, rhubarb, Acanthopanax senticosus and Phellodendri cortex to a subject in need thereof.
