We claim: 
     
         1 . A dental composition, comprising:
 at least one basic polymerizable monomer having at least one ethylenically unsaturated group,   at least one or more neutral polymerizable monomers having at least one ethylenically unsaturated group,   at least one photoinitiator, and   optionally one solvent,   wherein the dental composition has a pH of from about 9.6 to about 11.3.
