Abstract

The invention relates to a smoking article ( 10 ). In particular, the invention relates to a smoking article ( 10 ) having a first part ( 11 ) which is moveable relative to a second part ( 12 ). The smoking article ( 10 ) may be extendable. In one example, the smoking article has a first cylindrical part configured to be moveable relative to a second cylindrical part, the first cylindrical part having a first engaging surface ( 17 ) and the second cylindrical part having a second engaging surface ( 20 ), wherein the first engaging surface ( 17 ) is engagable with the second engaging surface ( 20 ) to limit relative longitudinal movement between the first and second parts and wherein at least one of the first and second engaging surfaces ( 17, 20 ) extends around at least part of an inner or outer surface of the respective first or second cylindrical parts and follows a path other than a circular path. At least one of the first and second engaging surfaces ( 17, 20 ) may have a radial extent greater than a single thickness of the respective first or second sheet material forming the at least one of the first and second engaging surfaces ( 17, 20 ).

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A smoking article comprising:
a first cylindrical part configured to be moveable relative to a second cylindrical part, the first cylindrical part including a first engaging surface and the second cylindrical part including a second engaging surface, the first engaging surface engageable with the second engaging surface to limit relative longitudinal movement between the first cylindrical part and the second cylindrical part; and at least one of the first engaging surface and the second engaging surface disposed around an inner surface or an outer surface of the respective cylindrical part along a path other than a circular path, the path substantially tangential to the inner surface or the outer surface of the respective cylindrical part.

2 . The smoking article according to claim 1 , wherein the path extends at least partially along a length of the respective cylindrical part.

3 . The smoking article according to claim 1 , wherein the first engaging surface and/or the second engaging surface is configured to have a radius that is not constant around the circumference of the smoking article.

4 . The smoking article according to claim 1 , wherein the first cylindrical part has a first engaging portion on which the first engaging surface is disposed and the second cylindrical part has a second engaging portion on which the second engaging surface is disposed.

5 . The smoking article according to claim 4 , wherein at least one of the first engaging portion and the second engaging portion further comprises a plurality of teeth, and the respective engaging surface comprises an end and/or a side of the plurality of teeth.

6 . The smoking article according to claim 5 , wherein sides of the teeth are angled, such that the plurality of teeth extend at an angle to a circumference of the smoking article.

7 . The smoking article according to claim 5 , wherein each tooth from the plurality of teeth have a generally square, rectangular, rhomboidal, trapezoidal or triangular shape.

8 . The smoking article according to claim 5 , wherein the first engaging portion is disposed on a sheet of material having a first area affixed to a core component of the smoking article.

9 . The smoking article according to claim 8 , wherein the first engaging surface is longitudinally spaced from the affixed first area of the sheet of material.

10 . The smoking article according to claim 8 , wherein the core component of the smoking article comprises a tobacco rod and a filter section, and the first area connects the tobacco rod and the filter section.

11 . The smoking article according to claim 8 , wherein the sheet of material further comprises a second area affixed to a core component of the smoking article, the first engaging surface disposed longitudinally between the first and second areas.

12 . The smoking article according to claim 11 , wherein each tooth from the plurality of teeth are substantially triangular and are angled radially outwards from the core component.

13 . The smoking article according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first engaging surface and the second engaging surface is a blank of material folded along at least one line of weakness, wherein the line of weakness extends non-linearly.

14 . The smoking article according to claim 13 , wherein at least one of the first engaging surface and the second engaging surface is a blank of material folded along first and second lines of weakness, wherein the first and second lines of weakness each extend non-linearly.

15 . The smoking article according to claim 14 , wherein each of the first line of weakness and second line of weakness has an undulating shape.

16 . The smoking article according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first engaging surface and second engaging surface is disposed around an inner surface or an outer surface of its respective cylindrical part and defines a path other than a circular path.

         17 . A smoking article comprising:
a first cylindrical part configured to be moveable relative to a second cylindrical part, the first cylindrical part including a first engagement surface of a first sheet material and the second cylindrical part including a second engagement surface of a second sheet material, the first engagement surface is engageable with the second engagement surface to limit relative longitudinal movement between the first cylindrical part and the second cylindrical part; and at least one of the first engagement surface and the second engagement surface is disposed around an inner surface or an outer surface of the respective cylindrical part, with a radial extent greater than a single thickness of the respective sheet material, and defines a path that is substantially tangential to the inner surface or the outer surface of the respective cylindrical part.

18 . The smoking article according to claim 17 , wherein at least one of the first engagement surface and the second engagement surface is a blank of material folded along at least one crease.

19 . A blank of sheet material for forming at least one of the first engaging surface and the second engaging surface of the smoking article of claim 1 , the blank comprising:
a plurality of teeth defined in the blank; or at least one non-linear line of weakness across the blank, the plurality of teeth or the at least one non-linear line of weakness configured such that when the blank is used to form one of the first and second engaging surfaces, the plurality of teeth or the non-linear line of weakness forms a surface that extends around an inner surface or an outer surface of a respective cylindrical part of a smoking article and defines a non-circular path, the path substantially tangential to the inner surface or the outer surface of the respective cylindrical part.
