Abstract

The present invention relates to a ground trap for catching the female eastern cicada killer wasp as the wasp is flying out of a burrow, wherein the ground trap includes a generally rectangular body and a generally square top section; the top section including a transparent window to allow light into the inside of the trap body; wherein the bottom of the trap is left open so that the flying insect can pass from the burrow directly into the trap; the bottom of the trap being beveled such that the trap is leaning to one side at an angle of about 45 degrees with respect to the ground, thus allowing the insect to more readily attach to glue-coated sidewalls of the trap.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A kit for catching female cicada killer wasps, the kit comprising a trap device and a wicket-shaped peg, wherein the trap device comprises a transparent window area, three tab sections, three cut-out sections for receiving the tabs, and a main body section, wherein the main body section comprises two apertures for receiving the wicket-shaped peg and a non-toxic glue material, wherein the glue material resides on the inside of the trap device when fully assembled.

2 . The kit according to claim 1 wherein the transparent window area comprises the top of the trap.

3 . The kit according to claim 2 wherein the transparent window area generally has the shape of a square.

4 . The kit according to claim 3 wherein the transparent window area comprises cellophane.

5 . The kit according to claim 2 wherein the transparent window area extends directly from the main body section.

6 . The kit according to claim 1 wherein the trap device, when fully assembled, is hollow.

7 . A non-toxic, environmentally friendly glue trap for catching flying insects which burrow into the ground and produce offspring, the trap comprising a hollow main body, a non-toxic glue material, a transparent window at the distal end of the hollow main body and an opening at the proximal end of the hollow main body wherein the opening at the proximal end is beveled such that the trap is tilted when the trap is standing on a flat surface, and wherein the non-toxic glue material is coated on the inside of the hollow main body.

8 . The glue trap according to claim 7 wherein the hollow main body has a shape selected from the group consisting of a rectangular shape and a cylindrical shape.
