Abstract

An improved portable media device and methods for operating a media device are disclosed.

         14 . A wearable electronic device, comprising:
 a housing;   a wrist band coupled to the housing and configured to couple the wearable electronic device to a body of a user;   a touchscreen coupled to the housing; and   a wireless transceiver configured to communicatively couple the wearable electronic device to a host electronic device.   
     
     
         15 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 14 , further comprising a haptic output device for providing tactile feedback to a user. 
     
     
         16 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 14 , wherein the housing is formed from ceramic material. 
     
     
         17 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 14 , wherein the wearable electronic device is configured to receive data files from the host electronic device via the wireless transceiver. 
     
     
         18 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 17 , further comprising memory, wherein the wearable electronic device is configured to store data files received from the host electronic device in the memory. 
     
     
         19 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 14 , wherein the wearable electronic device is a timepiece. 
     
     
         20 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 14 , further comprising a rotary dial input mechanism coupled to the housing and configured to receive a user input. 
     
     
         21 . A wearable electronic device, comprising:
 a housing;   a wrist band coupled to the housing and configured to couple the wearable electronic device to a body of a user;   an input device coupled to the housing and extending substantially edge-to-edge of a front surface of the housing; and   a rotary dial input mechanism coupled to the housing and configured to receive user input.   
     
     
         22 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 21 , wherein the input device is a touchscreen. 
     
     
         23 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 21 , wherein the housing forms a docking surface configured to engage with a docking system. 
     
     
         24 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 23 , wherein the wearable electronic device receives power from the docking system. 
     
     
         25 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 21 , further comprising a media playback control module configured to control media playback at a host electronic device that is separate from the wearable electronic device.

The wearable electronic device of  claim 25 , wherein the wearable electronic device is configured to receive media playback commands via the rotary dial input mechanism, and to control the media playback at the host electronic device in response to the media playback commands. 
     
     
         27 . A wearable electronic device, comprising:
 a housing forming a docking surface configured to engage with a docking system;   a wrist band coupled to the housing;   a touchscreen coupled to the housing; and   a wireless transceiver configured to communicatively couple the wearable electronic device to a host electronic device.   
     
     
         28 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 27 , wherein the touchscreen extends substantially edge-to-edge of a front surface of the housing. 
     
     
         29 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 27 , wherein the wearable electronic device receives power from the docking system. 
     
     
         30 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 27 , wherein the housing is substantially rectangular. 
     
     
         31 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 27 , wherein the housing is substantially circular. 
     
     
         32 . The wearable electronic device of  claim 27 , wherein the wearable electronic device is configured to synchronize one or more files with a host electronic device.

The wearable electronic device of  claim 27 , further comprising a media playback control module configured to control media playback at the host electronic device when the wearable electronic device is communicatively coupled to the host electronic device, wherein the wearable electronic device is configured to:
 receive media playback commands via the touchscreen; and   control the media playback at the host electronic device in response to the media playback commands.
