Method and system for voicemail operations management
Abstract
Methods and systems for managing voicemail operations are provided here. In some embodiments a method for managing voicemail operations may include establishing a first call over a first telecommunication session with a voicemail system, transmitting message data over the first telecommunication session to be recorded in a voicemail message on the voicemail system, receiving a second call over a second telecommunication session while the first telecommunication session is active, and sending a first notification to the voicemail system to manage the recording of the voicemail message prior to establishing the second call over the second telecommunication session.

establishing a first call over a first telecommunication session with a voicemail system; transmitting message data over the first telecommunication session to be recorded in a voicemail message on the voicemail system; receiving a second call over a second telecommunication session while the first telecommunication session is active; and sending a first notification to the voicemail system to manage the recording of the voicemail message prior to establishing the second call over the second telecommunication session.
2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first notification to manage the recording instructs the voicemail system to pause the recording of the voicemail message.
3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the first notification is sent automatically and without user input to the voicemail system when the second call is received.
4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , further comprising:
sending a second notification to the voicemail system to resume the recording of the voicemail message.
5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , further comprising:
transmitting additional message data over the first telecommunication session to be recorded in the voicemail message on the voicemail system.
6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , wherein the second notification is sent after the second telecommunication session has ended or placed on hold.
7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first notification to manage the recording instructs the voicemail system to delete the recording of the voicemail message.
8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first notification to manage the recording instructs the voicemail system to end and complete the recording of the voicemail message.
9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first telecommunication session is established using a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telecommunication application disposed on a first user device.
10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein the voicemail system and the VoIP telecommunication application are associated with the same VoIP service provider.
11 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first notification is one of a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message, an Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) message, or a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) message.

The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein the first notification includes instructions provided in a customized SIP header to one of pause the recording of the voicemail message, delete the recording of the voicemail message, or end and complete the recording of the voicemail message.
13 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein first notification sent is a Dual-tone multi-frequency signaling (DTMF) tone.
14 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the established first telecommunication session is a real time transfer protocol (RTP) stream.
15 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the voicemail message is one of an audio message or a video message.
16 . A computer-implemented method for managing voicemail operations, comprising:
accepting a request to establish a first telecommunication session with a first user device to leave a voicemail message; recording the voicemail message; receiving a first notification from the first user device, while recording the voicemail message, to pause the recording of the voicemail message; and receiving a second notification from the first user device while the recording of the voicemail message is paused, to resume the recording of the voicemail message.
17 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , further comprising:
pausing the recording of the voicemail message and putting the first telecommunication session on hold after the first notification is received.
18 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , further comprising:
resuming the first telecommunication session and resuming the recording of the voicemail message after the second notification is received.
19 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , further comprising:
storing the voicemail message after recording of the voicemail message has been completed.

The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , wherein a first message file is stored after the first notification to pause the recording of the voicemail message is received, wherein a second message file is created after the second notification to resume the recording of the voicemail message is received, and wherein the first message file and second message files are merged to form a single audio or video voicemail message file.
21 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , wherein the second notification to resume the recording of the voicemail message is received prior to expiration of a timeout period.
22 . The computer-implemented method of claim 21 , wherein a timer is started after the first notification to pause the recording of the voicemail message is received, and wherein the timer is canceled and the recording of the voicemail message is resumed if the second notification is received prior to expiration of the timeout period.
23 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , wherein the first telecommunication session is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) session.
24 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , wherein the first and second notifications are one of a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message, an Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) message, or a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) message.
25 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , wherein first and second notifications received are Dual-tone multi-frequency signaling (DTMF) tones.
26 . A system for managing voicemail operations, comprising:
a first telecommunication module configured to:
establish a first call over a first telecommunication session with a voicemail system;
transmit message data over the first telecommunication session to be recorded in a voicemail message on the voicemail system;
and
send a first notification to the voicemail system to manage the recording of the voicemail message in response to a second call received over a second telecommunication session while the first telecommunication session is active.
