Abstract

Methods, computer-readable media, and systems for scheduling the association of metadata with content. In an embodiment, event information is obtained from a virtual calendar, wherein the event information comprises at least one event detail and one or more parameters defining a time period. First metadata is generated based on the event detail, and is stored, in association with the time period, in a memory. Then, subsequently, during the time period, the first metadata may be retrieved from the memory, and associated with one or more content items generated on the device.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method comprising using at least one hardware processor of a device, configured to capture a content item and access a contact database, to:
 receive a content item captured by the device;   obtain location information for the device;   match the location information to location information in at least one contact record in the contact database;   derive metadata based on the at least one contact record; and   associate the derived metadata with the received content item.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein obtaining location information for the device comprises:
 acquiring Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates from a GPS receiver of the device; and   retrieving location information associated with the GPS coordinates.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein each of the location information obtained for the device and the location information in the at least one contact record comprises an address. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein each of the location information obtained for the device and the location information in the at least one contact record comprises Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein matching the location information to location information in at least one contact record in the contact database comprises identifying location information in the at least one contact record that represents a location within a predetermined range of the location information obtained for the device. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein deriving metadata based on the at least one contact record comprises extracting text from the contact record to be used as the metadata. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the text extracted from the contact record and used as the metadata comprises a name of the contact. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the receiving, matching, deriving, and associating are performed automatically without user intervention. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the receiving, matching, and deriving are performed automatically without user intervention, and wherein the method further comprises prompting a user for confirmation prior to associating the derived metadata with the received content item. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the received content item comprises audio data, and wherein the method further comprises:
 matching a representation of at least a portion of the audio data in the content item to a representation of audio data in a sound-recognition database;   identifying metadata associated with the matched representation of audio data in the sound-recognition database; and   associating the identified metadata with the received content item.   
     
     
         11 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having one or more sequences of instructions stored therein, wherein the one or more sequences of instructions, when executed by a processor of a device, cause the processor to:
 receive a content item captured by the device;   obtain location information for the device;   match the location information to location information in at least one contact record in the contact database;   derive metadata based on the at least one contact record; and   associate the derived metadata with the received content item.   
     
     
         12 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein obtaining location information for the device comprises:
 acquiring Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates from a GPS receiver of the device; and   retrieving location information associated with the GPS coordinates.   
     
     
         13 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 12 , wherein each of the location information obtained for the device and the location information in the at least one contact record comprises an address. 
     
     
         14 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein each of the location information obtained for the device and the location information in the at least one contact record comprises Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates. 
     
     
         15 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein matching the location information to location information in at least one contact record in the contact database comprises identifying location information in the at least one contact record that represents a location within a predetermined range of the location information obtained for the device. 
     
     
         16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein deriving metadata based on the at least one contact record comprises extracting text from the contact record to be used as the metadata. 
     
     
         17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 16 , wherein the text extracted from the contact record and used as the metadata comprises a name of the contact. 
     
     
         18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein the receiving, matching, deriving, and associating are performed automatically without user intervention. 
     
     
         19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of  claim 11 , wherein the receiving, matching, and deriving are performed automatically without user intervention, and wherein the one or more sequences of instructions further cause the processor to prompt a user for confirmation prior to associating the derived metadata with the received content item. 
     
     
         20 . A system comprising:
 at least one hardware processor;   a memory; and   one or more software modules that, when executed by the at least one hardware processor,
 receive a content item captured by the device, 
 obtain location information for the device, 
 match the location information to location information in at least one contact record in the contact database, 
 derive metadata based on the at least one contact record, and 
 associate the derived metadata with the received content item.
