Abstract

In a method and system for managing map content, an indication of a location of a building in a venue is received, and an aerial image of the building based on the location is obtained. A floor plan image of a floor of the building is received, wherein the floor plan image comprises a plurality of walls, and a user is prompted to align the floor plan image to the aerial image via a user interface. An indication of walkable areas on the floor plan image and an indication of a location of a feature on the floor plan image are received. A distance value for the floor plan image is determined, and a visitor user interface is provided for determining a route in the building for a visitor based on the distance value and the floor plan image.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by a processing device, an indication of a location of a building in a venue;   obtaining, by the processing device, an aerial image of the building based on the location;   receiving, by the processing device, a primary floor plan image of a primary floor of the building, wherein the primary floor plan image comprises a primary plurality of walls;   prompting, by the processing device, a user to align the primary floor plan image to the aerial image via a user interface;   receiving, by the processing device, an indication of walkable areas on the primary floor plan image;   receiving, by the processing device, an indication of a location of a feature on the primary floor plan image;   determining, by the processing device, a distance value for the primary floor plan image; and   providing, by the processing device, a visitor user interface for determining a route in the building for a visitor based on the distance value and the primary floor plan image.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving an indication of a start location and an end location from the visitor;   determining the route further based on the start location and the end location; and   causing directions for the route to be provided to the visitor.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1  further comprising:
 receiving a second floor plan image for another floor of the building, wherein the second floor plan image comprises a second plurality of walls; 
 prompting the user to align the second floor plan image to the primary floor plan image or the aerial image; 
 receiving an indication of walkable areas of the second floor plan image; 
 receiving a location of a conduit between the primary floor and the other floor; 
 determining a second distance value for the second floor plan image, wherein the route is determined further based on the second distance value and the second floor plan image. 
 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein determining the distance value comprises:
 receiving an indication of a distance between two walls of the plurality of walls from the user;   determining a scale of the floor plan based on the distance; and   determining the distance value based on the scale.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein determining the distance value comprises:
 determining a scale of the floor plan based on a dimension of the building determined from the aerial image; and   determining the distance value based on the scale.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1  further comprising:
 receiving an update of the location of the feature on the primary floor plan image from the user. 
 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the feature comprises an entrance to the building, a bathroom, a stairway, an elevator, or an escalator. 
     
     
         8 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to perform operations comprising:
 receiving an indication of a location of a building in a venue;   obtaining an aerial image of the building based on the location;   receiving a primary floor plan image of a floor of the building, wherein the primary floor plan image comprises a primary plurality of walls;   prompting a user to align the primary floor plan image to the aerial image via a user interface;   receiving an indication of walkable areas on the primary floor plan image;   receiving an indication of a location of a feature on the primary floor plan image;   determining a distance value for the primary floor plan image; and   providing a visitor user interface for determining a route in the building for a visitor based on the distance value and the primary floor plan image.   
     
     
         9 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of  claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 receiving an indication of a start location and an end location from the visitor;   determining the route further based on the start location and the end location; and   causing directions for the route to be provided to the visitor.   
     
     
         10 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of  claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 receiving a second floor plan image for another floor of the building, wherein the second floor plan image comprises a second plurality of walls;   prompting the user to align the second floor plan image to the primary floor plan image or the aerial image;   receiving an indication of walkable areas of the second floor plan image;   receiving a location of a conduit between the floor and the other floor; and   determining a second distance value for the second floor plan image, wherein the route is determined further based on the second distance value and the second floor plan image.   
     
     
         11 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of  claim 8 , wherein determining the distances comprises:
 receiving an indication of a distance between two walls of the plurality of walls from the venue user;   determining a scale of the floor plan based on the distance; and   determining the distance value based on the scale.   
     
     
         12 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of  claim 8 , wherein determining the distance value comprises:
 determining a scale of the floor plan based on a dimension of the building determined from the aerial image; and   determining the distance value based on the scale.   
     
     
         13 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of  claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 receiving an update of the location of the feature on the primary floor plan image from the user.   
     
     
         14 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of  claim 8 , wherein the feature comprises an entrance to the building, a bathroom, a stairway, an elevator, or an escalator. 
     
     
         15 . A computing device comprising:
 a memory; and   a processing device coupled to the memory, wherein the processing device is to:
 receive an indication of a location of a building in a venue; 
 obtain an aerial image of the building based on the location; 
 receive a primary floor plan image of a floor of the building, wherein the primary floor plan image comprises a primary plurality of walls; 
 prompt a user to align the primary floor plan image to the aerial image via a user interface; 
 receive an indication of walkable areas on the primary floor plan image; 
 receive an indication of a location of a feature on the primary floor plan image; 
 determine a distance value for the primary floor plan image; and 
 provide a visitor user interface for determining a route in the building for a visitor based on the distance value and the primary floor plan image. 
   
     
     
         16 . The computing device of  claim 15 , wherein the processing device is further to:
 receive an indication of a start location and an end location from the visitor;   determine the route further based on the start location and the end location; and   cause directions for the route to be provided to the visitor.   
     
     
         17 . The computing device of  claim 15 , wherein the processing device is further to:
 receive a second floor plan image for another floor of the building, wherein the second floor plan image comprises a second plurality of walls;   prompt the user to align the second floor plan image to the primary floor plan image or the aerial image;   receive an indication of walkable areas of the second floor plan image;   receive a location of a conduit between the floor and the other floor; and   determine a second distance value for the second floor plan image, wherein the route is determined further based on the second distance value and the second floor plan image.   
     
     
         18 . The computing device of  claim 15 , wherein, to determine the distance value, the processing device is to:
 receive an indication of a distance between two walls of the plurality of walls from the user;   determine a scale of the floor plan based on the distance; and   determine the distance value based on the scale.   
     
     
         19 . The computing device of  claim 15 , wherein, to determine the distance value, the processing device is further to:
 determine a scale of the floor plan based on a dimension of the building determined from the aerial image; and   determine the distance value based on the scale.   
     
     
         20 . The computing device of  claim 15 , wherein the processing device is further to:
 receive an update of the location of the feature on the primary floor plan image.
