Roll roofing
Abstract
A roll roofing material is provided in the form of a cylindrical roll that may or may not have an exterior covering thereon, and with transverse members being provided, carried by the cylindrical roll, and which protrude generally outwardly of an exterior cylindrical surface of the roll. The transverse members inhibit rolling of the roll roofing either off a pitched roof. One or more inserts may be provided in a hollow core of the roll, and connectors may attach a strap to these inserts for transporting the same from ground to a rooftop, or otherwise. Protective covers may be provided at opposite ends of the roll roofing, and the protective covers may comprise the transverse members, as may be desired.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method of placement of roofing material onto a sloped or pitched roof, comprising the steps of:
(a) providing an asphalt impregnated web; (b) applying particulate material in the form of granules to a surface of the web that is adapted to be outwardly-facing when the roofing material is applied to a sloped or pitched roof; (c) rolling the roofing material into a generally cylindrical roll of a given diametrical dimension, the outer cylindrical surface of which is any one of:
(i) roofing material that is cylindrical and uncovered; and
(ii) roofing material that is cylindrical and having a generally cylindrical covering thereon;
and is of a given diametrical dimension with a hollow core;
(d) providing at least one anti-roll device in the form of a transverse member of a transverse dimension greater than said given dimension and having an insert member connected thereto;
(e) inserting the at least one insert member into a hollow core of the cylindrical roll of roofing material;
(f) transporting the cylindrical roll of clause (e) to a sloped or pitched surface of a roof and disposing the cylindrical roll onto the sloped or pitched surface of the roof with its outer cylindrical surface against the sloped or pitched surface of the roof; and
(g) resisting the tendency of the cylindrical roll of roofing material to roll off the sloped or pitched surface of the roof by portions of the anti-roll device protruding outwardly of the cylindrical surface, in engagement with the sloped or pitched surface of the roof.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein an anti-roll device of clause (d) with an insert connected thereto is inserted into the hollow core of each end of the cylindrical roll.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the transporting step of clause (f) includes the step of providing a carrying strap attached at both ends of the roll of roofing material and using the carrying strap to carry the roll of roofing material onto a sloped or pitched roof surface.
4 . The method of claim 1 including the step of inhibiting photodegradation of the roll of roofing material by providing a protective cover to at least portions of the roll of roofing material, prior to transporting the roll or roofing material onto a sloped or pitched surface of a roof.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
