Abstract

In a method for automatically filtering communications, a new networking request from an initiating party is received. A social networking model for a recipient of the new networking request is retrieved. Context information related to prior communications between the recipient and the initiating party from the social networking model for the recipient is used to present the new networking request to the recipient. The social networking model for the recipient is dynamically updated based upon a response by the recipient to the new networking request.

19 . At least one non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that when executed by at least one computing system result in performance of operations to be carried out in association with at least one social network that is associated with at least one user entity and at least one other user entity, the operations comprising:
determining, in response at least in part, to at least one request, whether to permit social-network-related communication between the at least one user entity and the at least one other user entity, the determining being based at least in part upon:
whether the at least one user entity and the at least one other user entity are classifiable in at least one relationship category associated with the at least one social network, the at least one relationship category being specifiable by the at least one other user entity; and
whether the at least one other user entity has instructed that any request associated with the at least one user entity is to be refused.

20 . The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein:
the at least one user entity is associated with at least one computing device used to issue the at least one request; and the at least one computing device comprises at least one of:
 a handheld device; and
 a cellular phone.

21 . The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 20 , wherein:
the determining is also based at least in part upon whether at least one response from at least one other computing device indicates acceptance of the at least request.

22 . The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein:
the at least one relationship category is associated with a friend relationship.

23 . The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein:
at least one communication channel is capable of being established between the at least one user entity and the at least one other user entity based upon whether the at least one user entity the at least one other user entity are classifiable in at least one relationship category.

24 . The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 23 , wherein:
the at least one communication channel comprises chat communication.

25 . The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein:
the at least one communication channel comprises instant message communication.

26 . The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein:
the at least one relationship category is associated with relationship closeness ranking determinable by the at least one other user entity.

27 . The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein:
the determining is to be performed automatically.

28 . The at least one computer-readable memory of claim 19 , wherein:
the at least one social network is associated with at least one social circle.

29 . The at least one computer-readable memory of claim 19 , wherein:
the operations also comprise initiating providing of a prompt to the at least one other user entity to decide whether to accept the at least one request; and the prompt includes identity of the at least one user entity.

30 . The at least one computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein:
the at least one request is transmitted wirelessly from at least one computing device.
