Abstract

Disclosed are various embodiments for associating item images with item catalog data. An image of an item is obtained in one or more computing devices. The item is identified from the image based at least in part on data derived from reference images that are each associated with one or more items. Catalog data corresponding to the item is associated with the image. The catalog data is added to a merchant catalog in an electronic marketplace.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
Therefore, the following is claimed:

         1 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium embodying a program executable in a computing device, the program comprising:
 code that obtains an image depicting at least one item; code that identifies the at least one item from the image based at least in part on data derived from a plurality of reference images that are associated with a respective at least one item of a catalog of items; code that, responsive to an indication that identifying the at least one item was incorrectly performed, tracks the image as a misidentified image; code that, responsive to an indication that identifying the at least one item was correctly performed, associates catalog data corresponding to the at least one item with the image; code that obtains the catalog data about the at least one item from a client responsive to at least one of: the indication that identifying the at least one item was incorrectly performed, or the code that identifies being unable to identify the at least one item; and code that adds the catalog data to a catalog of a merchant in an electronic marketplace.

         2 . The computer-readable medium of claim 1 , further comprising code that determines at least one of a sales-success factor or a distinctiveness factor for the at least one item.

         3 . A system, comprising:
 at least one computing device; and an item identification application executable in the at least one computing device, the item identification application comprising:
 logic that obtains an image depicting at least one item;
 logic that identifies the at least one item from the image based at least in part on data derived from a plurality of reference images that are associated with a respective at least one item of a catalog of items;
 logic that, responsive to an indication that identifying the at least one item was incorrectly performed, tracks the image as a misidentified image;
 logic that, responsive to an indication that identifying the at least one item was correctly performed, associates catalog data corresponding to the at least one item with the image; and
 logic that adds the catalog data to a catalog of a merchant in an electronic marketplace.

         4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the logic that identifies further comprises logic that compares an image characteristic calculated for the image with a plurality of stored image characteristics in the data derived from the reference images.

         5 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the item identification application further comprises logic that determines a sales success factor for the at least one item based at least in part on customer feedback associated with the catalog data.

         6 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the item identification application further comprises logic that determines a quantity of the at least one item to satisfy a demand for the at least one item in the electronic marketplace.

         7 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the item identification application further comprises logic that determines a distinctiveness factor for the at least one item based at least in part on a number of merchants offering the at least one item in the electronic marketplace.

         8 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the catalog data associated with the image includes a description of the at least one item.

         9 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the logic that associates is configured to generate a data feed that includes the catalog data associated with the image.

         10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the catalog data comprises a plurality of item attributes, and the data feed is configured to exclude at least one of the item attributes.

         11 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the item identification application further comprises logic that obtains the catalog data about the at least one item from a client responsive to at least one of: the indication that identifying the at least one item was incorrectly performed, or the logic that identifies being unable to identify the at least one item.

         12 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the item identification application further comprises logic that obtains additional catalog data about the at least one item from a manufacturer of the item.

         13 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the at least one computing device comprises a client computing device, and the item identification application further comprises logic that obtains the data derived from the reference images and the catalog data from at least one server computing device.

         14 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the image is one of a plurality of images depicting the at least one item, and identifying the at least one item is based at least in part on the plurality of images.

         15 . A method, comprising:
 obtaining, in at least one computing device, an image depicting at least one item; identifying, in the at least one computing device, the at least one item based at least in part on an analysis of the image and at least one reference image; tracking, by the at least one computing device, the image as a misidentified image responsive to an indication that identifying the at least one item was incorrectly performed; and associating, in the at least one computing device, catalog data that describes the at least one item with the image responsive to an indication that identifying the at least one item was correctly performed.

         16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the image is one of a plurality of images depicting the at least one item, and identifying the at least one item is based at least in part on the plurality of images.

         17 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising generating, determines a sales success factor for the at least one item based at least in part on customer feedback associated with the catalog data.

         18 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising generating, determines a distinctiveness factor for the at least one item based at least in part on a number of merchants offering the at least one item in an electronic marketplace.

         19 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising adding, in the at least one computing device, the at least one item to a catalog of items associated with the merchant.

         20 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising obtaining, by the at least one computing device, the catalog data describing the at least one item from a client responsive to at least one of: the indication that identifying the at least one item was incorrectly performed, or being unable to identify the at least one item.
