Abstract

A method and apparatus for controlling enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) transmissions are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is configured to have a plurality of hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) processes for transmission of enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) data. At least one of the plurality of H-ARQ processes is configured to not transmit scheduled data. The WTRU is configured, for a transmission time interval of the at least one H-ARQ process, to multiplex scheduling information into a medium access control for enhanced dedicated channel (MAC-e) protocol data unit (PDU) for transmission using the at least one H-ARQ process, wherein scheduled data is not multiplexed into the MAC-e PDU.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:
 circuitry configured to have a plurality of hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) processes for transmission of enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) data, wherein at least one of the plurality of H-ARQ processes is configured to not transmit scheduled data; and   the circuitry is further configured, for a transmission time interval of the at least one H-ARQ process, to multiplex scheduling information into a medium access control for enhanced dedicated channel (MAC-e) protocol data unit (PDU) for transmission using the at least one H-ARQ process, wherein scheduled data is not multiplexed into the MAC-e PDU.   
     
     
         2 . The WTRU of  claim 1 , wherein the circuitry is further configured to multiplex available non-scheduled data into the MAC-e PDU. 
     
     
         3 . The WTRU of  claim 2 , wherein the available non-scheduled data to multiplex is based on a received non-scheduled grant. 
     
     
         4 . The WTRU of  claim 1 , wherein the circuitry is further configured to transmit the MAC-e PDU using the at least one H-ARQ process. 
     
     
         5 . The WTRU of  claim 4 , wherein the MAC-e PDU is transmitted over an E-DCH. 
     
     
         6 . A method for transmitting enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) data, the method comprising:
 configuring a plurality of hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) processes for transmission of E-D CH data, wherein at least one of the plurality of H-ARQ processes is configured to not transmit scheduled data; and   multiplexing, for a transmission time interval of the at least one H-ARQ process, scheduling information into a medium access control for enhanced dedicated channel (MAC-e) protocol data unit (PDU) for transmission using the at least one H-ARQ process, wherein scheduled data is not multiplexed into the MAC-e PDU.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6  further comprising multiplexing available non-scheduled data into the MAC-e PDU. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein multiplexing available non-scheduled data into the MAC-e PDU is based on a received non-scheduled grant. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 6  further comprising transmitting the MAC-e PDU using the at least one H-ARQ process. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9  further comprising transmitting the MAC-e PDU over an E-DCH.
