Abstract
Composition of vitamin D in medium-chain triglycerides and use thereof in delivering a nutritional or therapeutic amount of vitamin D to a human being, particularly, an infant. The compositions are applied to an object, such as skin or in the case of an infant to a woman's nipple or pacifier from which the infant sucks off the composition. The method provides a more suitable, safer and efficient way of providing the human being with vitamin D. The compositions further comprise a free fatty acid and/or monoglyceride, oxidant preservative and, optionally, other vitamins.

A composition comprising vitamin D in liquid, triglyceride of 6 to 12 carbon chain lengths, for application to an object surface to provide a therapeutic or nutritional amount of vitamin D to a human being, who is to suck said composition directly from said object surface.

4 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 comprising 9 to 9000 mcg/ml vitamin D.

6 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein said liquid triglyceride comprises at least 95% triglycerides having a carbon-chain length selected from 8-10.

16 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 further comprising an anti-oxidant preservative.
17 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a nutritionally effective amount of a fat-soluble vitamin selected from the group consisting of alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), vitamin A, vitamin K and B-carotene.
18 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 additionally comprising caprylic acid, caprylic monoglyceride or monocaprylin.

A method of using a composition comprising vitamin D in a liquid triglyceride of 6 to 12 carbon chain lengths medium as claimed in claim 1 , comprising applying said composition to a surface of an object and applying said object to the mouth of a human being to allow said human being to imbibe said composition.
20 . The method as claimed in claim 19 comprising applying said composition to a surface of an object and applying said object to the mouth of a human being to allow said human being to imbibe said composition.
21 . The method as claimed in claim 19 wherein said composition comprises 9 to 9000 mcg/ml vitamin D.
22 . The method as claimed in claim 21 wherein said composition comprises 150 to 450 mcg/ml vitamin D.
23 . The method as claimed in claim 18 wherein said object is the skin of said human being.
24 . The method as claimed in claim 23 wherein said object is a woman's nipple.
25 . A method for delivering a nutritional or therapeutic amount of vitamin D to a human being comprising:
(i) applying a composition comprising vitamin D in a liquid triglyceride of 6 to 12 carbon chain lengths medium to a surface of an object; and (ii) inserting said object into the mouth of the human being so as to allow said human being to suck said composition from said object surface.
26 . The method as claimed in claim 25 wherein said composition comprises 9 to 9000 mcg/ml vitamin D.
27 . The method as claimed in claim 25 wherein said composition comprises 150 to 450 mcg/ml vitamin D.
28 . The method as claimed in claim 25 wherein said liquid triglyceride comprises at least 95% triglycerides having a carbon-chain length selected from 8 to 10.
29 . The method as claimed in claim 25 further comprising an anti-oxidant preservative, or a nutritionally effective amount of a fat-soluble vitamin selected from the group consisting of alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), vitamin A, vitamin K and B-carotene.
30 . A method for delivering a nutritional or therapeutic amount of vitamin D to a human being, comprising:
(i) applying one drop of a composition comprising from 9 to 9000 mcg/ml vitamin D in a liquid triglyceride of 6 to 12 carbon chain lengths, and having at least 95% of said triglycerides having a carbon chain length of from 8 to 10, to the exterior surface of an object, wherein said drop adheres to the surface of said object; and (ii) inserting said object into the mouth of the human being and having said human being suck or lick said composition from said object surface.
