Abstract
A plate haptic for an accommodating intraocular lens. The plate haptic has a haptic body that is substantially rigid in a longitudinal direction and substantially flexible in a transverse direction. A chassis is integral to the haptic body. The chassis causes the haptic body to be substantially more rigid in a longitudinal direction than in a transverse direction.

2 . An intraocular lens comprising:
an optic comprising a superior hemisphere and an inferior hemisphere; a first plate haptic and an opposite second plate haptic, at least one of said opposing first and second haptics being substantially flexible in the transverse direction and substantially rigid in the longitudinal direction; wherein the first plate haptic is coupled to the superior hemisphere of the optic at a first non-zero angle between the optic and the first plate haptic; wherein the second plate haptic is coupled to the inferior hemisphere of the optic at a second non-zero angle between the optic and the second plate haptic; wherein the superior hemisphere is adapted to be positioned at the twelve o'clock position in the eye and configured to focus light for distance vision, and the inferior hemisphere is adapted to be positioned at the six o'clock position in the eye and configured to focus light for near vision; and wherein the intraocular lens provides seamless distance to near vision.
3 . The intraocular lens of claim 1 , wherein the first plate haptic is coupled to the superior hemisphere of the optic at a first flexion, the first non-zero angle being fixed.
4 . The intraocular lens of claim 2 , wherein the first non-zero angle is not less than 10 degrees and not more than 50 degrees.
5 . The intraocular lens of claim 2 , wherein the first plate haptic biases at least a portion of the optic anteriorly.
6 . The intraocular lens of claim 1 , wherein the second plate haptic is coupled to the inferior hemisphere of the optic at a second flexion, the second non-zero angle being fixed.
7 . The intraocular lens of claim 5 , wherein the first non-zero angle is not less than 10 degrees and not more than 50 degrees.
8 . The intraocular lens of claim 5 , wherein the second plate haptic biases at least a portion of the optic anteriorly.
9 . The intraocular lens of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of said opposing first and second haptics comprises a frame at least partially embedded in a haptic body.
10 . The intraocular lens of claim 8 , wherein the frame comprises lateral projections at a distal end of the frame.
11 . The intraocular lens of claim 8 , wherein the frame comprises a plurality of longitudinal struts.
12 . The intraocular lens of claim 1 , wherein the frame comprises a plurality of openings.
13 . The intraocular lens of claim 1 , wherein the optic comprises acrylic.
14 . The intraocular lens of claim 1 , wherein the haptic comprises acrylic.
15 . The intraocular lens of claim 1 , wherein the optic is a single focus optic.
16 . The intraocular lens of claim 1 , wherein the first and second plate haptics are configured to move the optic in the same direction.
17 . The intraocular lens of claim 1 , wherein the optic is positioned anterior to the first and second plate haptics when the intraocular lens is implanted in the eye.
