Abstract

A method of delivering a drug composition comprises providing a carrier having a phosphatidylcholine component and a drug entrapped therein, and applying the composition to the skin for transdermal delivery of the drug, wherein the composition is stable at room temperature.

         20 . A stable topical composition for delivery of a polypeptide, comprising:
 a carrier comprising polyenylphosphatidylcholine; and   a polypeptide comprised within the carrier for transdermal delivery of the insulin to dermal vasculature, wherein the polyenylphosphatidylcholine stabilizes the insulin such that the polypeptide is stable when stored at room temperature for at least 65 days.   
     
     
         21 . The composition of  claim 20 , further comprising a siloxylated polyether. 
     
     
         22 . The composition of  claim 21 , wherein the siloxylated polyether comprises dimethyl, methyl(propylpolyethylene oxide propylene oxide, acetate) siloxane. 
     
     
         23 . The composition of  claim 20 , further comprising at least one polyglycol. 
     
     
         24 . The composition of  claim 20 , wherein the carrier further comprises a silicone fluid. 
     
     
         25 . The composition of  claim 24 , wherein the silicone fluid comprises polydimethylsiloxane. 
     
     
         26 . The composition of  claim 20 , wherein the polypeptide is selected from the group consisting of oxytocin, vasopressin, somatotropin, calcitonin, chorionic gonadotropin, menotropins, follitropins, somatostatins, progestins, and combinations of any of these. 
     
     
         27 . A stable topical composition for delivery of a polypeptide, comprising:
 a carrier comprising polyenylphosphatidylcholine and a polypeptide, wherein the polyenylphosphatidylcholine stabilizes the polypeptide such that the polypeptide is stable when stored at room temperature for at least 65 days.   
     
     
         28 . The composition of  claim 27 , further comprising a siloxylated polyether. 
     
     
         29 . The composition of  claim 28 , wherein the siloxylated polyether comprises dimethyl, methyl(propylpolyethylene oxide propylene oxide, acetate) siloxane. 
     
     
         30 . The composition of  claim 27 , further comprising at least one polyglycol. 
     
     
         32 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the carrier further comprises a silicone fluid. 
     
     
         32 . The composition of  claim 32 , wherein the silicone fluid comprises polydimethylsiloxane. 
     
     
         33 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the polypeptide is selected from the group consisting of oxytocin, vasopressin, somatotropin, calcitonin, chorionic gonadotropin, menotropins, follitropins, somatostatins, progestins, and combinations of any of these. 
     
     
         34 . A stable topical composition for delivery of insulin, comprising:
 a carrier comprising polyenylphosphatidylcholine; and   insulin comprised within the carrier for transdermal delivery of the insulin to dermal vasculature, wherein the polyenylphosphatidylcholine stabilizes the insulin such that the insulin is stable when stored at room temperature for at least 65 days.   
     
     
         35 . The composition of  claim 34 , further comprising a siloxylated polyether. 
     
     
         36 . The composition of  claim 35 , wherein the siloxylated polyether comprises dimethyl, methyl(propylpolyethylene oxide propylene oxide, acetate) siloxane. 
     
     
         37 . The composition of  claim 34 , further comprising at least one polyglycol. 
     
     
         38 . The composition of  claim 34 , wherein the carrier further comprises a silicone fluid. 
     
     
         39 . The composition of  claim 38 , wherein the silicone fluid comprises polydimethylsiloxane. 
     
     
         40 . A stable topical composition for delivery of insulin, comprising:
 a carrier comprising polyenylphosphatidylcholine and insulin, wherein the polyenylphosphatidylcholine stabilizes the insulin such that the insulin is stable when stored at room temperature for at least 65 days.   
     
     
         41 . The composition of  claim 40 , further comprising a siloxylated polyether. 
     
     
         42 . The composition of  claim 41 , wherein the siloxylated polyether comprises dimethyl, methyl(propylpolyethylene oxide propylene oxide, acetate) siloxane. 
     
     
         43 . The composition of  claim 40 , further comprising at least one polyglycol. 
     
     
         44 . The composition of  claim 40 , wherein the carrier further comprises a silicone fluid.
