Abstract

A comprehensive platform for developing digital products. A standardized process is applied to a product development effort and an online portal provides tools to aid the product development, assessment, funding and commercializing products. Project management, workflow and data security functionality enable consistent, efficient and secure interactions between users. Business rules, workflows, valuation models and rating methods may be user defined or based upon marketplace, industry or technology standards.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method comprising:
 retrieving, by an intellectual property (IP) valuation computer and from an IP asset database, IP asset data associated with an IP asset,
       wherein the IP asset database is populated with the IP asset data obtained from a standardized template;
 determining, by the computer and based at least partially upon the IP asset data, a rating of the IP asset;
 auditing, by the computer, a chain of title associated with the IP asset;
 determining, by the computer and based at least partially upon the IP asset data and the chain of title, a valuation of the IP asset;
 receiving, by the computer, a request to license the IP asset from a buyer; and
 transmitting, by the computer, an invoice to the buyer for a royalty payment.

         2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the IP asset data comprises data elements and each data element corresponds to an IP attribute.

         3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising determining, by the computer, a plurality of IP attributes to retrieve for the IP asset.

         4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the determining the plurality of IP attributes comprises determining the plurality of IP attributes based upon at least one of an IP asset type, a rating model and a valuation model.

         5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the rating is based at least partially upon a comparison to at least one of a market portfolio or an internal portfolio.

         6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising determining, by the computer, the internal portfolio.

         7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the determining the internal portfolio comprises accessing the IP asset database to determine a plurality of similar IP assets, wherein the rating comprises comparing attributes of the plurality of similar IP assets to the IP asset data.

         8 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising determining, by the computer, the market portfolio by at least one of accessing an external data source, accessing a market analysis or receiving an expert opinion.

         9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the rating is based at least partially upon at least one of a committee or a plurality of expert opinions.

         10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the rating is based at least partially upon a reputation of at least one of an inventor associated with the IP asset or an owner of the IP asset.

         11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the reputation is determined by the users of an IP marketplace system associated with the IP asset database.

         12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the valuation is based at least partially upon a title search of the IP asset.

         13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the valuation is based at least partially upon a custom valuation model.

         14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the custom valuation model is associated with a potential buyer.

         15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the valuation is based at least partially upon at least one of an analysis of related IP transactions, a cost valuation or a utility valuation.

         16 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing, by the computer, loyalty points to the buyer, in response to receiving the royalty payment.

         17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the valuation comprises a valuation range.

         18 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the valuation is based at least partially upon a country granting an IP right associated with the IP asset.

         19 . A system comprising:
 an intellectual property (IP) valuation processor, a tangible, non-transitory memory configured to communicate with the processor, the tangible, non-transitory memory having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising: retrieving, by the processor and from an asset database, IP asset data associated with an IP asset, wherein the IP asset database is populated with the IP asset data obtained from a standardized template; determining, by the processor and based at least partially upon the IP asset data, a rating of the IP asset; auditing, by the processor, a chain of title associated with the IP asset; determining, by the processor and based at least partially upon the IP asset data and the chain of title, a valuation of the IP asset; receiving, by the processor, a request to license the IP asset from a buyer; and transmitting, by the processor, an invoice to the buyer for a royalty payment.

         20 . An article of manufacture including a tangible, non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by an intellectual property (IP) valuation computer, cause the computer to perform operations comprising:
 retrieving, by the computer and from an IP asset database, IP asset data associated with an IP asset, wherein the IP asset database is populated with the IP asset data obtained from a standardized template; determining, by the computer and based at least partially upon the IP asset data, a rating of the IP asset; auditing, by the computer, a chain of title associated with the IP asset; determining, by the computer and based at least partially upon the IP asset data and the chain of title, a valuation of the IP asset; receiving, by the computer, a request to license the IP asset from a buyer; and transmitting, by the computer, an invoice to the buyer for a royalty payment.
