Ventilator-initiated prompt regarding high-delivered tidal volume
Abstract
This disclosure describes systems and methods for monitoring and evaluating ventilatory data to provide useful notifications and/or recommendations. Indeed, many clinicians may not easily identify or recognize data patterns and correlations indicative of certain patient conditions or the effectiveness of ventilatory treatment. Further, clinicians may not readily determine appropriate adjustments that may address certain patient conditions or the effectiveness of ventilatory treatment. Specifically, clinicians may not readily detect or recognize the occurrence of high-delivered V T during various types of ventilation. According to embodiments, a ventilator may be configured to monitor and evaluate diverse ventilatory parameters to detect an occurrence of and potential causes for high-delivered V T and may subsequently issue suitable notifications and/or recommendations. The suitable notifications and/or recommendations may further be provided in a hierarchical format such that the clinician may selectively access information regarding the high-delivered V T and/or potential causes for the high-delivered V T .

21 . A ventilator-implemented method for detecting high-delivered tidal volume (V T ), the method comprising:
receiving a setting for a threshold V T ; determining a tidal volume delivered to a patient (delivered V T ); detecting high-delivered V T upon determining that the delivered V T is greater than the threshold V T ; identifying one or more potential causes for the high-delivered V T comprising one or more of:
detecting an increase in compliance concurrently with the high-delivered V T ;
detecting a decrease in resistance concurrently with the high-delivered V T ; and
detecting an increase in patient inspiratory effort concurrently with the high-delivered V T ; and
displaying a prompt when high-delivered V T is detected.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the delivered V T is determined by integrating inspiratory flow over inspiratory time (T I ).
23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the delivered V T is determined by integrating expiratory flow over expiratory time (T E ).
24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein displaying the prompt includes displaying the one or more potential causes for the high-delivered V T .
25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein displaying the prompt includes displaying one or more recommendations for addressing the high-delivered V T .
26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the prompt comprises:
a primary prompt that includes an alert regarding the high-delivered V T and the one or more potential causes for the high-delivered V T ; and a secondary prompt that includes one or more recommendations for addressing the high-delivered V T .
27 . A ventilatory system for detecting high-delivered tidal volume (V T ), the ventilator system comprising at least one processor and at least one memory, communicatively coupled to the at least one processor and containing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the ventilatory system to:
detect high-delivered V T ; identify one or more potential causes for the high-delivered V T comprising one or more of:
detect an increase in compliance concurrently with the high-delivered V T ;
detect a decrease in resistance concurrently with the high-delivered V T ; and
detect an increase in patient inspiratory effort concurrently with the high-delivered V T ; and
display a prompt regarding the high-delivered V T .
28 . The ventilator system of claim 27 , wherein the prompt comprises one or more of:
a notification message displaying the one or more potential causes for the high-delivered V T ; and a recommendation message displaying one or more recommendations for addressing the high-delivered V T .
29 . The ventilatory system of claim 27 , wherein the prompt comprises:
a primary prompt that displays the one or more potential causes for the high-delivered V T ; and a secondary prompt that displays one or more recommendations for addressing the high-delivered V T .
30 . The ventilator system of claim 29 , wherein the secondary prompt is displayed upon receiving a selection.
31 . The ventilatory system of claim 28 , wherein the notification message displays at least one of:
an increase in compliance detected concurrently with the high-delivered V T ; and a decrease in resistance detected concurrently with the high-delivered V T .
32 . The ventilatory system of claim 31 , wherein the recommendation message displays:
consider decreasing inspiratory pressure (P 1 ).
33 . The ventilatory system of claim 28 , wherein the notification message displays at least one of:
an increase in compliance detected concurrently with the high-delivered V T ; and a decrease in resistance detected concurrently with the high-delivered V T .
34 . The ventilatory system of claim 33 , wherein the recommendation message displays:
consider decreasing pressure support (P SUPP ).
35 . The ventilatory system of claim 28 , wherein the notification message displays:
an increase in patient inspiratory effort detected concurrently with the high-delivered V T .
36 . The ventilatory system of claim 35 , wherein the recommendation message displays one or more of:
consider causes for the increase in patient inspiratory effort; consider decreasing inspiratory pressure (P I ); consider increasing set V T ; and consider decreasing pressure support (P SUPP ).
37 . A ventilator processing interface for displaying a prompt in response to detecting high-delivered tidal volume (V T ), comprising:
means for detecting the high-delivered V T ; means for identifying one or more potential causes for the high-delivered V T , comprising one or more of:
means for detecting an increase in compliance concurrently with the high-delivered V T ;
means for detecting a decrease in resistance concurrently with the high-delivered V T ; and
means for detecting an increase in patient inspiratory effort concurrently with the high-delivered V T ; and
means for displaying the prompt including the one or more potential causes for the high-delivered V T .
38 . The ventilator processing interface of claim 37 , further comprising:
means for determining one or more recommendations for addressing the high-delivered V T , wherein the displaying prompt further includes the one or more recommendations for addressing the high-delivered V T .
39 . A graphical user interface of a ventilator for displaying one or more prompts, the graphical user interface communicatively coupled to the ventilator for accepting commands and for displaying information, the graphical user interface comprising:
at least one window; and one or more elements within the at least one window comprising at least one prompt element for communicating information upon detecting high-delivered tidal volume (V T ), wherein the information comprises one or more potential causes for the detected high-delivered V T that include one or more of: an increase in compliance, a decrease in resistance, and an increase in patient inspiratory effort.
40 . The graphical user interface of claim 39 , wherein the at least one prompt element further comprises at least one of a notification message and a recommendation message, wherein the notification message comprises an alert associated with the detected high-delivered V T , and wherein the recommendation message comprises one or more recommendations for addressing the detected high-delivered V T .Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
