Apparatus to provide a screen capturing function and a method of providing the screen capturing function

Abstract

A portable apparatus to provide a screen capturing function, when a display unit of the apparatus displays moving pictures on a display panel thereof, includes a button signal input unit to receive a button signal inputted by a user; a picture capturing unit to capture individual pictures of the moving pictures, when the inputted button signal is determined to be a first button signal; a thumbnail creating unit to create thumbnails of the captured pictures, the thumbnails being sequentially arranged on a predetermined portion of the display panel; and a screen recording button located on an exterior of the portable apparatus to generate the first button signal.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A portable apparatus to provide a capturing function, the apparatus comprising:
 a display panel for displaying moving images in a first region and a thumbnail image in a second region; and   a picture capturing unit for capturing a picture in response to a capturing signal,   wherein, in response to the capturing signal, a visual effect is applied such that a thumbnail image corresponding to the captured picture is gradually displayed in the second region upon the capturing of the picture.   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus according to  claim 1 , further comprising a moving picture recording unit to record moving images being displayed in the first region in response to a record signal. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus according to  claim 2 , wherein, when a clip of the moving images is recorded by the moving picture recording unit, an image corresponding to the recorded clip is displayed in the second region. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus according to  claim 2 , wherein when a clip of the moving images is recorded by the moving picture recording unit, a visual effect is applied such that a thumbnail image corresponding to the recorded clip is gradually displayed in the second region upon the recording of the clip. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus according to  claim 3 , wherein the image corresponding to the recorded clip is a thumbnail of a picture from among the recorded moving images of the clip. 
     
     
         6 . The apparatus according to  claim 3 , wherein the image corresponding to the recorded clip is an icon, and, when the icon is selected, the recorded clip corresponding to the selected icon is reproduced on the display panel. 
     
     
         7 . The apparatus according to  claim 2 , wherein the clip of the moving images is recorded by the moving picture recording unit, and a recording time is displayed in the first region. 
     
     
         8 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the display panel displays information corresponding to the recording of moving images. 
     
     
         9 . The apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the second region is overwrapped on the first region. 
     
     
         10 . The apparatus according to  claim 1 , further wherein, when a thumbnail is selected from the second region, a picture corresponding to the thumbnail is displayed in the first region and the second region. 
     
     
         11 . The apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the moving images are from a broadcasting signal. 
     
     
         12 . The apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the moving images are from a camera unit. 
     
     
         13 . A method for providing a capturing function, the method comprising:
 displaying moving images in a first region on a display panel;   receiving a signal corresponding to a user request;   capturing a picture in response to the user request signal being a picture capture signal;   applying a visual effect such that a thumbnail image corresponding to the captured picture is gradually displayed in the second region upon the capturing of the picture; and   displaying the thumbnail image of the captured picture in the second region.   
     
     
         14 . The method according to  claim 13 , further comprising recording a clip of the moving images being displayed in the first region in response to a record signal. 
     
     
         15 . The method according to  claim 14 , wherein, when the clip of the moving images is recorded, an image corresponding to the recorded clip is displayed in the second region. 
     
     
         16 . The method according to  claim 15 , wherein the image corresponding to the recorded clip is a thumbnail of a picture from among the recorded moving images. 
     
     
         17 . The method according to  claim 15 , wherein the image corresponding to the recorded clip is an icon, and when the icon is selected, the recorded clip corresponding to the selected icon is reproduced on the display panel. 
     
     
         18 . The method according to  claim 14 , further comprising applying a visual effect on the display panel when the clip of the moving images is recorded such that a thumbnail image corresponding to the recorded clip is gradually displayed in the second region upon the recording of the clip. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 14 , further comprising displaying information corresponding to the recording of moving images. 
     
     
         20 . The method according to  claim 14 , further comprising displaying a recording time in the first region. 
     
     
         21 . The method according to  claim 13 , wherein the second region is overwrapped on the first region. 
     
     
         22 . The method according to  claim 13 , further comprising outputting a sound effect informing a state of the capturing. 
     
     
         23 . The method according to  claim 13 , further comprising:
 selecting a thumbnail from the second region; and   displaying a picture corresponding to the thumbnail in the first region and the second region.   
     
     
         24 . The method according to  claim 13 , wherein the moving images are from a broadcasting signal. 
     
     
         25 . The method according to  claim 13 , wherein the moving images are from a camera unit. 
     
     
         26 . A portable apparatus to provide a capturing function, the apparatus comprising:
 a display panel for displaying moving images in a first region and a thumbnail image in a second region; and   a picture capturing unit for capturing a picture in response to a capturing signal,   wherein, in response to the capturing signal, a visual effect is displayed on the display panel, the visual effect comprising gradually changing a size of an image corresponding to a captured picture to a thumbnail size while the image is displayed in the second region.   
     
     
         27 . A portable apparatus to provide a capturing function, the apparatus comprising:
 a display panel for displaying moving images in a first region and a thumbnail image in a second region; and   a picture capturing unit for capturing a picture in response to a capturing signal,   wherein, in response to the capturing signal, a thumbnail image corresponding to a captured picture is displayed using a visual effect in the second region, the visual effect including transitioning from a reduced thumbnail size to a full thumbnail size of the thumbnail image.
