Abstract

There is provided a method that includes designing an ophthalmic lens for use with a lens holder. The designing employs as design parameters (a) a predetermined peripheral shape for ultimate use of the ophthalmic lens, and (b) an area size of space enclosed within the predetermined peripheral shape, for the ultimate use of the ophthalmic lens.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A method comprising:
designing an ophthalmic lens for use with a lens holder, wherein said designing employs as design parameters, (a) a predetermined peripheral shape for ultimate use of said ophthalmic lens, and (b) an area size of space enclosed within said predetermined peripheral shape, for said ultimate use of said ophthalmic lens.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said ophthalmic lens is a progressive addition lens.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said ophthalmic lens is an aspheric lens.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said designing comprises representing a surface of said ophthalmic lens by way of a Zernike expansion.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein said Zernike expansion employs at least ten terms.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said designing employs, as a design parameter, a pupil size of a wearer for use of said ophthalmic lens.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising manufacturing said ophthalmic lens.

8 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising situating said ophthalmic lens in said lens holder.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said ophthalmic lens is one of two such lenses that when situated in said lens holder satisfy a span of interpupillary distances of at least 6 millimeters.
