Pharmaceutical/cosmetic, e.g., anti-acne compositions comprising at least one naphtoic acid compound, benzoyl peroxide and at least one film-forming agent

Abstract

Stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic compositions for topical application, notably for the treatment of acne vulgaris include, formulated into a physiologically acceptable medium, at least one naphthoic acid compound, benzoyl peroxide and at least one film-forming agent, the at least one naphthoic acid compound and the benzoyl peroxide advantageously being in a dispersed form therein.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A stable, topically applicable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition non-irritant over the long term, the composition comprising otherwise essentially incompatible amounts of at least one naphthoic acid compound and benzoyl peroxide, and,providing degradation-resistance thereto, a thus effective amount of at least on film-forming agent, formulated into a topically applicable, physiologically acceptable medium therefore. 
     
     
         2 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 1 , wherein the at least one film-forming agent is selected from the group consisting of polyvinylpyrrolidones, polysaccharides other than cellulose and derivatives thereof, acrylic copolymers, polyvinyl alcohols and polyquaternium compounds.

         7 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 2 , wherein the at least one film forming agent comprises a polyquaternium selected from among polyquaternium 1, 10 and 7. 
     
     
         8 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 1 , wherein the at least one naphthoic acid compound, and/or the benzoyl peroxide, is in a dispersed form in said composition. 
     
     
         9 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 1 , wherein the at least one naphthoic acid compound comprises a compound of formula (I): 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       in which R is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl radical, a branched or unbranched alkyl radical having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkoxy radical having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms or a cycloaliphatic radical. 
     
     
         10 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 1 , wherein the at least one naphthoic acid compound is present in a concentration of ranges from 0.001% to 10%, by weight of the total weight thereof.

The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 1 , wherein the at least one naphthoic acid compound comprises 6-[3-(1-adamantyl)-4-methoxyphenyl]-2-naphthoic acid, 6-[3-(1-adamantyl)-4-hydroxyphenyl]-2-naphthoic acid, 6-[3-(1-adamantyl)-4-decyloxyphenyl]-2-naphthoic acid and/or 6-[3-(1-adamantyl)-4-hexyloxyphenyl]-2-naphthoic acid. 
     
     
         12 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 11 , wherein said at least one naphthoic acid compound comprises 6-[3-(1-adamantyl)-4-methoxyphenyl]-2-naphthoic acid.

         15 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 1 , wherein the at least one film-forming agent is present in a concentration that ranges from 0.5% to 20% by weight relative to the total weight thereof.

         21 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 1 , comprising, in water:
 from 0.1% to 0.3% of a naphthoic acid compound;   from 1% to 10% of benzoyl peroxide;   from 30% to 95% of water;   from 0.5% to 10% of at least one film-forming agent;   from 0.10% to 3% of one or more gelling agents and/or suspending agents and/or pH-independent gelling agents;   from 0% to 1.5% of one or more chelating agents;   from 0.1% to 10% of one or more wetting agents; and   from 0.01% to 3% of preservatives.

         33 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 1 , comprising from 0.15% to 5% of a gelling agent. 
     
     
         34 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 12 , wherein the concentration of the 6-[3-(1-adamantyl)-4-methoxyphenyl]-2-naphthoic acid is from 0.1% to 0.4% by weight relative to the total weight thereof. 
     
     
         35 . The stable pharmaceutical/cosmetic composition as defined by  claim 34 , wherein the concentration of the 6-[3-(1-adamantyl)-4-methoxyphenyl]-2-naphthoic acid is 0.1% or 0.3% by weight relative to the total weight thereof.
