Abstract

Reduction in the reliability of a seal portion is prevented. The reduction is caused by a light shielding portion formed on the seal portion of a TFT substrate to hamper curing an ultraviolet curable sealing material. A sealing material has a two-layer structure of an ultraviolet curable sealing material that is an inner sealing material and a thermosetting and ultraviolet curable sealing material or a thermosetting sealing material that is an outer sealing material. A light shielding portion is formed on a TFT substrate under the outer sealing material. The light shielding portion is not formed on the TFT substrate under the inner sealing material. When ultraviolet rays are applied from the TFT substrate side, the inner sealing material is cured in a short time. The outer sealing material is then cured by heating. Thus, the overall seal portion can be sufficiently cured, and a highly reliable seal portion can be formed.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A liquid crystal display device comprising:
a TFT substrate and a counter substrate, the counter substrate being bonded to the TFT substrate through a sealing material, liquid crystals being sandwiched inside between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate, the counter substrate having four sides, the TFT substrate having a portion covered by the counter substrate and a terminal portion, which is not covered by the counter substrate, wherein the sealing material comprising: an inner sealing material and an outer sealing material, the outer sealing material is formed at least one side of the counter substrate.

2 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 ,
wherein the outer sealing material is formed at least at a side adjacent to the terminal portion.

3 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 ,
wherein the inner material is formed of an ultraviolet curable material, the outer sealing material is formed of a thermosetting and an ultraviolet curable material or thermosetting material.

4 . A liquid crystal display device comprising:
a TFT substrate and a counter substrate, the counter substrate being bonded to the TFT substrate through a sealing material, liquid crystals being sandwiched inside between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate, the counter substrate having four sides, the TFT substrate having a portion covered by the counter substrate and a terminal portion, which is not covered by the counter substrate, wherein the sealing material comprising: a first sealing material, and an ultraviolet curable material contacting with the first sealing material at least at one side.

5 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4 ,
wherein the ultraviolet curable material is formed at a side adjacent to the terminal portion.

6 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4 , wherein the ultraviolet curable material is formed inside of the first sealing material.

7 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4 ,
wherein the ultraviolet curable material is formed outside of the first sealing material.

8 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 4 , wherein the first sealing material is an ultraviolet curable material or thermosetting material.
